is anyone noticing that some episodes are not appearing on audible. The episode the week of Jeopday but not the day of that went appeared. (I think 'come from behind win' what is the one missing) it never showed up and after a week and a half I just listen to it from YouTube and never looked more minus passing thought since the rest of them was showing up afterwards. but now this week's episode is not showing up which makes me think how often will this happen. does anyone know why such a thing happened particularly on the paid for platform.

5/1/23 title needs to be in spoiler - "
Spoiler
What Are 5 New Jeopardy! Champions?"
(30:06)

Sarah and Buzzy host and plug Buzzy's This is Jeopardy! podcast. Buzzy's 73-year-old dad listened and said Buzzy talks too fast. Claire McNear listened and learned things she did not know about J!

Masters is 1 week away on May 8th. May 10th will be Masters, Celeb WoF with Ken, Mayim and Vanna playing and at 10 p.m. The Game Show Show with a 4-week run. First ep. is "The Answer Is..."

Masters is scheduled to tape tomorrow and really needs to happen to give post-production time to air as scheduled on ABC. The reason for last week's taping not happening was production challenge.

Buzzy and Sarah were both interviewed for The Game Show Show and are waiting to see if any of their portions make the final cut.

For today's podcast Buzzy is wearing a tie that belongs to one of the Masters.

Buzzy did AMA on Reddit and a mention was made of Reddit thread about superchamp. The hosts credit the rise of superchamps to specialized prep and more resources available.

There are now 5 J! millionaires and for others not yet on the show there is an incentive of possibly making a career from J!

The JIT (Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament) was quickly mentioned for those finishing bottom two of Masters and needing to play in to get back to highest level.

12:40 4/24 week of games -
Spoiler
Dillon won wearing a quarter zip and has quiz bowl background.

Sarah's daughters colored the Flat Stanleys shown in visual clue and Alex used to get Flat Stanleys sent to him all the time. He would take a picture with them and then a J! staffer would mail them back.

Sarah imitated Ken's way of reading the valley girl clue and then did her own version of it which was far superior.

16:40-17:20 Buzzy ad for the other podcast

The 4/26 game had six lead changes in the DJ! Round.

The Carol Burnett clue was sent to NBC and they responded, "Sure hope they got it right." :)

Rebecca's chat about daughter afraid mom might stay long time (like some previous champs) got a mention.

The hosts like Kevin's drag name of Whiskey Ginger.

Ken gets some blame for TS FJ! clue on Friday as Ken visited there and saw the third lantern and thought it would make a good clue.
The taping for the April 28 game was the last with Rocky Schmidt as Supporting Producer though he will stay on as a consultant.

Rocky was a J! champ in S2 and stayed with the show for 38 years as Alex saw something in him. Rocky is a lawyer by trade and was one of Alex's best friends. Alex and his wife Jean attended Rocky's wedding in North Dakota and Jean was the officiant. Rocky was one of the few people with Alex when he died.

Questions 25:03 and Robert asks about writing phonetic FJ! response. That's fine as long as the pronunciation is not changed.

Sara asks about upcoming UK version (there will also be an Australian one) and if a champ(s) from there could be on U.S. ToC. Michael Davies not there to give answer so Sarah & Buzzy can't say yes or no, but only mention that Celeb J! winner got an invite, so who knows.

Stephen Fry will host both versions and he has previously visited the U.S. J! set and control room.

Next Week: 5/1 week of games and likely an announcement about Masters

I wonder if the WGA strike means these tapings will be canceled, given that other unions won't cross picket lines.

Andy has some excellent advice for contestants lined up to tape on the Jeopardy! Fan site:
Spoiler
I would highly recommend going back about five to ten years and memorizing as much of J! Archive as you can. During the last strike in 2008, there were instances where Jeopardy! would essentially lift past categories wholesale from about a decade earlier.

I recall a lot of episodes at the time having it mentioned in their J! Archive headings that some of their material came from older episodes, but now I can find only one with such a heading.

5/8/23 "What is the Debut of Jeopardy! Masters?" (20:38)

Sarah & Michael host - no Buzzy

Masters is 20 games over 10 eps and it's gone better than imagined.

Amy, Matt and Andrew in first game.
James, Mattea and Sam in second game.

At 6pm Pacific after it airs in the East the match-ups for the next day will be on the J! site. During the eastern time zone airing there will be live stats on Twitter.

James and Ken have good banter and there will be banter with the other contestants as well.

James asked to be described as "self described game show villain"

On YouTube there will be an interview with the final winner right after it airs. The finale of Masters has not been taped yet.

4:45 5/1 week of games:
Spoiler
The return of Kevin aka Whiskey Ginger as well as Mayim hosting. This was the first taping day with the barricades down at the judges tables.

Kevin practiced buzzing with a toilet paper roll holder.

Ad for Buzzy's podcast 6:33 - 7:13

Hannah had zero incorrect responses through more than one game.

During a break Mayim did Q&A with the audience and it came up that Mayim auditioned for the roll of D.J. Tanner in Full House.

During J! rehearsals Michael could see there was something special about Hannah that while shy she had a demeanor that indicated she was going to be a player.

Hannah 18th in crossword tourney and #2 in Midwest with Erik Agard ahead of her reminded Sarah of Alex story. Erik chatted about someone coming up to him mad about a hard crossword puzzle Erik wrote and threatened to hit Erik with a pie. Alex came out the next day with a pie to scare Erik.
Ellie Kemper and Sarah chat at 11:40 - 15:05 - Ellie like reading a category and wants to do it again but due to buzzer and knowledge would be a no for Celeb J! as she knows her limitations. Ellie likes hosting the baking show but is not a baker herself. If Ellie had to bake something it might be churros.

Ellie liked watching the judges taste churros that were in the range of bad to good. The bakers on the show were all kind and rooted for each other.

Ellie is friends with Ike Barinholtz and was also rooting for B.J. Ellie had no doubt that Ike would do well on J! and was happy to learn he will be in the ToC. Ellie's mom loves Ike and was excited to see him win.

15:18 question from Sean who wonders why the players no longer walk out when introduced.

It's better to save time to get to all the clues and get right to the game.

Steve asks about Hannibal being a correct response two different times on 4/27. One was a city and one was a character, so okay as far as Michael concerned although he admits it was not entirely intentional and perhaps he should have caught it.

Next week the 5/8 week of games including the first four Masters games.

Michael will be on Reddit (and social media) tonight (5/8) reading the reactions to Masters.

Huh. That must be the origin of the whole pie thing. I used to go to the Indie 500 crossword tournament (Erik was one of the organizers), and pie was always served (and they always made a big deal about the fact that there will be pie). Plus the winner got to hit the author of the puzzle of their choice with a pie. I'll have to ask Joon; I'm sure he knows the story.

5/15/24 "What is Jeopardy! Masters Week 1?" (44:11)

Michael & Sarah & Buzzy host

Could Buzzy be a Master? Michael takes it day by day in thinking about eligibility.

Michael followed comments about Masters across all social media and was happy about good ratings. Masters is Mo-Tu-We this week and next week to the final ep. on the 24th.

3:05 Masters Week One:
Spoiler
They call the points, Monopoly money. Game 1 Matt was 14/50 getting in on buzzer. Players like the first 30 clues with no break.

Sarah like Jason Alexander working in the comment about getting NUCLEAR PHYSICS $1000 when he played.

In the studio there was big anticipation for the return of James playing.

The hosts think the J! shop should have some "Bring It!" merchandise, or swag as they call it.

Sam's fans are called The Buttheads.

Buzzy made a note of tough final for the Swedish author one.

Amy was in the middle of working on her book so may not have been able to prepare for Masters as best as possible.

Buzzy considers the material above a ToC level. Buzzy's note for the James & Matt tied entering FJ! game was, "Wow".

Michael spoke highly of the 6 Masters in general and appreciates their spirit & friendship and also mentioned American as part of his remarks.

Buzzy called out Sam for going back to a category that already had DD and you can't do that against James.

Sarah like that the French pastry category coincided with the 10th anniversary of the cronut.

Amy got a mention for going along with the "Bring it" fun by doing "Bringeth it" when last clue was in a Shakespeare category.

James had a 29R 0W game for highest numbers so far by someone in Masters.

Mattea's score from the red to first place gave Michael a chance to defend Mattea's place in Masters (some online haters) Mattea can be great on buzzer getting on a hot streak sometimes. Mattea was called the "best young Jeopardy! player on Earth".

Ad for Buzzy's "This is Jeopardy!" podcast

Buzzy likes the extra commentary Mattea will sometimes add while playing J!

Masters tiebreakers were mentioned with games won, clues correct, Coryat (the hosts actually used the term) and scores without including the FJ! round

The Andrew-Sam-Amy game was a rematch of the ToC that people had been waiting to see. Amy missing the Tig N. clue hurt since Amy has met Tig previously and blanked on the name.

Buzzy like Amy looking for a DD in the Isles category since that is where he would have gone to first. Andrew was wearing Buzzy's tie and now Andrew has it.

Ken being called K-Dog, KJ and Ken Jen has the hosts wondering what else Ken could be called.

In the Masters the players can take big swings such as Matt missing the big DD since they know they will play again.

Buzzy sat by Mindy Jennings and for FICTIONAL PLACES they took blind guesses for fun. Mindy has Gilead and Buzzy had Lilliput.
27:10 May 8th week of games:
Spoiler
The judges heard errors on all the attempts at Solzhenitsyn and Buzzy supports not close enough when judging.

Buzzy called Raquel losing by not betting enough the worst way to lose and Buzzy was surprised to learn that Raquel doing Sports J! was on the Alex Trebrek Stage as it's called today.

The hosts like when writers throw in a wink to Alex such as the Nuremberg clue.

Hannah shared Kat's Uber and Hannah spilled coffee inside the car to possibly ruin Kat's Uber rating.

The Thursday FJ! clue had a big stop down when the clue did not appear on the board. It had to be replaced (HISTORY - Washington guy buried in England) with a new one. That gave Mayim and extra long Q&A session with the audience while everything was worked out to prepare for a different FJ! clue.

Buzzy wonders about "Hurricane Hannah" category 9 level as she returns on 5/15 to try to tie his win total. Michael ran down a total of Hannah's correct answers by each game and then Buzzy said he was texting Carlos for his correct responses per game for comparison.

32:27 - Sarah talk to Hannah - Hannah's goal was to win a game to be a J! champ and 8 wins was not in the picture. Hannah always watches the ToC and now will get to play in one. Hannah likes Sam and was inspired by watching Amy to try out for J!

Meeting the contestants has been the best part and playing J! is fun. With the $200K+ Hannah & her wife might move from small apartment and traveling can be upgraded from trains.

*************
As with the Zach & Brian situation of co-champs, the J! powers had no way of knowing Ben Chan's return (already scheduled weeks in advance) would coincide with a 8x champ.
Questions 35:56 - Jake asks if audience in the studio sees DD placement like home viewers? No, just for watching at home. The reveal of DD placement was because ABC wanted things to differentiate it from regular shows. Michael made a slight mention about J! viewing on 2nd screen where perhaps DD placement could be seen?

Michael is analyzing the pros & cons of it and invites input from viewers about the Masters. Michael also mentioned sometimes getting lost following the speed of J! when watching in the studio and he thinks there should be enough room on big TVs people have for category to be on screen with the clue and does welcome thoughts and feedback about the possibility.

Kay asks about Masters #1 and what if the second group of players had played the same board as the first group since Masters golfers play the same course.

The biggest issue is security of the game material and whether it would be too boring for viewers. Buzzy knows Alex said the contestants are the star of the show while Buzzy feels the clues are the star and looks forward to new clues each game.

Sarah wondered about same board and same players and how there would be different results.

Next Week: 5/15 week of Masters to conclude the QFs before 2 players are cut and the 5/15 week of regular games

That is a pretty rough way to lose, but hey, she otherwise played pretty dang well. May as well bring her back. [insert negative Davies joke here about already bringing a lot of people back]

The Hannah vs. Ben game...yeah, I think Ben was ready for it.

True (especially considering that James is in the mix), but ouch.

5/22 "What is Jeopardy! Masters Week 2?" (42:55)

Sarah & Buzzy host

J! store has Masters merchandise and the 6 Masters were given a mega board blanket. Buzzy wants one the merch team to create a grabber with "Bring It!" on it.

Regular play contestants airing in June & July will also say "Bring it".

Makenna who made a cross stitch of ToCers has made one with the Masters.

Masters ratings have exceeded expectations

4:00 Masters 5/15 week of games:
Spoiler
Buzzy sat by Rocky Schmidt and Rocky solved the U.S. Government FJ! clue.

Matt Amodio made a promise to read Middlemarch.

James had Buzzy's ToC belt that went down the line to Sam K., who gave it to Amy and Amy will present it to next ToC winner.

Taping on March 15 only had morning taping as Andrew had to leave (one hour flight away) before afternoon taping when he heard his partner Sara(H?) was going to deliver their son, Everett. Other Masters and J! supported decision and cancelled the afternoon taping. Audience members were guaranteed seat at next taping.

Sam in doubting his place at Masters was told by James that he belongs and tiebreaker stats had Sam in top 3 for multiple options.

Sarah and crew did the taping for the Hans Zimmer category in Santa Monica and Hans has a lot of knickknacks. Hearing Hans play the Pearl Harbor live was moving and Hans found he appreciated the music a little more than he did at first.

The writers got a nod for the KEN JENNINGS: INTERNATIONAL NERD OF MYSTERY category.

Buzzy watched a game where he could see James' buzz-in stats and timing and was in awe.

The new green room is the celebrity green room and Masters players in there make mostly snide comments according to Ken answering an audience member question about the room.

Season 40 will no longer have J! contestants spread out in WoF studio and vice versa.

Buzzy was impressed by James adding around 20,000 points in a DJ! round without the help of DDs. Eric Ahasic tweeted about James' amazing performance.

19:35-20:55 ad for Shopify

Sam finished 6th for $50,000 and Amy got $75,000 for 5th.

Sam (Amy as well?) will be back for JiT.

Mattea once again was the subject of an aside compliment about being very good on buzzer races when all three players knew the correct response.

Mark Barrett opinion: There has to be some tea leaf reading about comments about Mattea in last week's podcast and this week's ep.; I'm just not sure how to read them.

Andrew was mentioned again for having no clue about Ken's Sprocket/SNL reference to his black turtleneck outfit.

James was very complimentary about Amy and Sam. Amy has now competed in 2 J! games with nothing in contention with the ToC exhibition and her last Masters game with 5th place locked up.
27:00 ad for podcast

27:46 May 15 week of regular play:
Spoiler
J! fans felt it was unfair to have Hannah face returning co-champ Ben. Ben was booked weeks prior to taping and automatically slotted into first game as not fair to do anything otherwise.

Buzzy said that Wendy may have felt like she walked into a Masters taping.

Hannah was said to be relieved she was done while Buzzy said he wanted to keep playing more when he was defeated.

After Tuesday game Ben said he wanted a snack and at ToC wants to hug Ray Lalonde.

Unlike last week, this week Buzzy said he did not want to talk about his stats in possibly comparing them to Hannah and/or Ben.

Ben seemed refreshed after lunch with big game and finished the week 8/8 on runaways to start run for unparalleled feat.

Talk to Ben at 33:05 with Sarah
Ben said it's hard to win once and now he will be in ToC. Ben admires Ray and is looking forward to meeting him.

When Ben showed up and saw he would be up against an 8x champ he knew he had to raise his game even though Hannah is super cool and super nice.

With a quarter million dollars (so far) Ben is looking at getting a camper for an East Coast tour.
36:17 Question from Jimmy who asked about what would have happened in Masters game if tie for 2nd place. There would be a tiebreaker to decide who gets the one point. Only a tiebreker with a correct response would air and one no players got right would not air.

Angela asks what happens if player gets sick or has to leave during the middle of a taping. Sarah says it has not happened in regular play and felt they answered the question earlier with the explanation about Andrew's leaving.

Next Week: May 22 week of Masters as well as regular play.

This week after Masters winner is crowned there will be a winner's video on YouTube.

But it's also hard to shake the mental image of Michael Davies pointing at basically every S39 champion and saying, "You get to come back! You get to come back, too! You there, with the interrobang earrings? You're back, too!" There are several single to three time champions I wanted to see return (albeit with the Second Chance tourney in mind rather than a new one), so...it's a mixed bag for me!
I mention to a friend that likes jeopardy but not to a fan level (apparently it is on during world news on PBS on her station) that idea that how The producer came up with about to inviting everyone back who won and they just thought it sounded preposterous. just based on the fact the amount of contestants that qualify. and even though that idea is in nice heart a 2 month 'post season' particularly in the a row is just too much at once. I think cutting off for half a month my even make it more palatable but I just do not know on this front.

because this tournament idea does not even make sense to someone who knows nothing about game shows but just knows about scheduling. though it has finally occurred to me why he thought this could possibly work. the only thing I think that led him to think this could ever succeed was that his first season of producing had so many super champions limited the amount of 'one day champions'. but under any other circumstance (basically any circumstance is basically One that Ken Jennings is it basically almost the whole season.) this would not work. look how long the decades championship went. (and that is just from me watching the ads and reading the dates of the tournament the ad show on the YouTube page.) that might be what he is thinking (it is the only thing I can think of that was this lofty of size.) but it is lengthy not to mention it was not just a mixed bag of every person that just won something there was actually a process. it was also not meant to be a yearly thing.
jev15 wrote: Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:09 pm Michael Davies needs to hire someone who will tell him no. A ten-week long postseason tournament is nearly a quarter of the full-season and will really reduce the number of new players who get their opportunity.
even not considering new players nothing should really be a chunk of a season. this is true for almost anything. (soap opera's a lot of time get away with it.) a quarter of a season is basically disastrous length.

this post is for the first masters episode. this episode was interesting to view the episodes in the non-question way. something I have been having trouble doing recently (which used to be so easy but trying and occasionally succeeding.) has definitely been entertain. I really love the to see The question grading system he mentioned when he was talking about ties. (there are a few question I am curious about in terms of what they think The difficulty is over this tournament.)

Who thought Mateja was going to do bad compare to anyone else (minus James of course which almost every player was considered to do bad against him for what I can tell.), I have not seen anything here indicating that. The person I had personally suspicions might have issues was Andrew He. this is because he has only five games and was roasted in the tournament of champions Final making him more of a surprise choice. Sam I had suspicions with too but at least I knew he was gonna be funny and understood he made good TV. (most of Andrew he's interviews in the Masters are not about himself, with one about someone else's snack, making it difficult to get a 'feel' about him.) but I never saw anything for mateja for that.

I can actually imagine possibly having two sets of people answer the same questions with the way the Masters is set up in the back the back way. The contestants can be engaging enough for it to still be worth watching in certain instances and sometimes might make the second Play through easier in terms of watching with the ability to follow the cadence instead of the questions. but there is always the risk of the questions in general. 2 Time would be where I would say the maximum not to have an American song contest amount in which everyone just play the same song over and over again. (which is the biggest risk even though some of the songs were nice in that contest)

5/29/23 - "Who is the Jeopardy! Masters Champion?" (47:28)

Michael Davies with Sarah & Buzzy

Masters:
Spoiler
was as good as Michel hoped and he wants to make it better in the future after looking at lessons from the 2023 one.

Michael wishes Masters had been part of the past 40 years and wants it institutionalized. James, Mattea & Matt will be 3 of next year's Masters along with winner of ToC and winner of JiT.

The format was due to ABC wanting a winner and 10 episodes. Michael hopes for a few more eps. next time as well as a multi-day final. Michael is still not sure about revealing the DD placement and wants to get the category on the screen with the clues.

The Masters players were at the top of their game and had fun.

The tears with Andrew and Mattea after the tiebreaker used to decide last finalist was a memorable moment.

8:50 is when the hosts really get down to talking about Masters.

Twice James did not have a runaway when he was against Andrew and Matt. Andrew tried to buzz in more but not in with good percentage and Matt was called the most inconsistent of the 6 players.

Michael okay-ed James and the Japanese signature. Mattea's mom was in the audience for semis & finals. Mattea's mom said Mattea spends 0 time practicing or studying.

Buzzy talked to Mattea and got a quote from them of, "When I start making flashcards to study for Jeopardy! it's over for these [M-Fers]. Buzzy said the word without a bleep.

Mattea is 24 yrs. old with so much potential and gives credit to their parents. Mattea had a 7/22 J! round getting in up to 12/16 DJ! round. Mattea is a streak shooter and James said Mattea is toughest buzzer ever he's faced.

Spoiler

Michael Davies was an understudy for both Beatrice & Benedick in middle school play and knows enough about Shakespeare to be dangerous and he is secure in the decision that Benedict had to be incorrect.

Ben said he may have written a bad flashcard and that is wife knew it was Benedick.

Ben's stats of 8/10 on FJ! clues, 28R avg. and $25K winning per show were noted as well as like Zach Newkirk, playing at all 3 podia.

41:45 Questions
Dan (who will be a contestant on 6/22/23) asks if players in a 2-game total point affair get to see scores from Day 1 when making Day 2 wagers. Yes, they get a card with the numbers for all 3 players.

Buzzy still has his from his ToC.

Helena asks about 3-2-1 scoring format possibility and the hosts acknowledge they covered that earlier before Michael had to leave prior to the end of the podcast. Sarah and Michael compared the 3-2-1 style as being like 2nd and 3rd place players taking home whatever money they make like Fleming days instead of trying to win. They don't want that, especially in Masters.
