Now that's a change I consider long overdue (seriously, was there any reason seasons 39 and 40 up to this point reused the season 38 graphics?). I wonder if the other graphics will be updated to match?

EDIT: Now that I actually paid attention to the "19 boxes" part, I may have interpreted it as a whole new intro instead of another variant.
Okay, here's the logo as posted on the show's website. The 2020-21 assets for the globe and backdrop are still in use, but the show's logo is to the left of it now. Excited to see how the animation itself plays out.

I wouldn’t know the opening graphics have changed unless it was mentioned here. Of course, my wife says I wouldn’t notice if I came home and another woman greeted me and fixed dinner.

12/18/23 “Who is Jen Jazwinski?” (42:13)
Sarah & Buzzy host.

SCC starts tomorrow with new opening and new logo. First SCC had promo with Western theme. This SCC has a promo with love songs collection theme.

Jilana Cotter’s son, Gilbert, was born on Dec. 7th.

5:20 – This week in J! history is promo for J! games Dec. 2020 for reruns of games where Alex had traveled the world to present clues.

8:25 – the 12/11 week of games:
Spoiler
Emma had a stat line of 16R 0W after having trouble with the buzzer to open the game.

The Ken & Julia exchange about BF vs. BFF went from chat to carry over in the postgame. There was the possibility of a 3-way tiebreaker if all three players finished with zero.

Contestants are instructed to give a poker face to not give away if their FJ! Round response is correct. Tyler did that even though he was a musical theater student.

J! staff was nice to Ed’s 90-year-old parents. Buzzy’s parents attended when Buzzy was alternate and tried to do things not allowed such as talk to him. Buzzy did not have them attend again.

Yungsheng’s come from behind win in QF and Semis got a mention.

Sarah thought airlines FJ! clue would go 3/3 and not 1/3.

Andrew gave a calm vibe to everyone.

Sarah spilled her coffee and it caused a stop down to clean judges desk and her computer.

Yungsheng says he loses all the time at work and wore his regular work clothes that he said smelled of jail & desperation. Perhaps J! honors will have new category and Yungsheng will win “Comeback Kid”.
20:35 Ken is asked how he practiced the buzzer. He used his son’s Fisher Price ring stacking toy with middle pole. Sarah visited Ken’s place before GOAT and saw him practice along with J! clues and weird when a clue Sarah gave as Clue Crew member came up.

22:00 chat with Jen –
Spoiler
First day on the J! set Jen smiled and waved to Sarah.

Jen met Josh Saak in 2021.

Jen tried out for J! with in person auditions twice and did not do well such as forgetting phrasing and saying she likes to read a lot even after staffers told the people auditioning that everyone likes to read so don’t say that.

Anytime Test was better for Jen.

Jen won with Dr. Sanjay Gupta as host and lost when she came back after 3-week taping break with George S. as guest host.

Jen’s Hearts semi game aired on Thanksgiving. Jen was with parents & husband who attended taping, but Ed & Amy, her opponents, joined in on a Zoom meeting part of the day.

In the green room after semis and waiting for finals Jen has some kind of spiral cord fidget device to occupy her time and flashcards on art which she shared with other players.

Finals 1 Jen had good stat line with 25R until her first ever FJ! miss on stage. She was thrown by that miss and was still thinking about it going into Finals 2.

Jen has found herself since the games taped to still call out in random at home, “Oxford!” “Giraffe!” in thinking about key misses from the finals.

Ads on Spotify from 34:20 to 36:25

Jen’s lunch was World’s Kitchen with selection of international foods. Jen had already played so open to eat anything first two lunches. 3rd lunch before finals she did not want to think too much about what to order so had the same think again.

Jen’s proudest stat is how well she and her opponents played in the semis.

Jen advises to keep trying out for J! and hopes to attend ToC taping to cheer on Clubs winner.

A rerun today (and next week) would have been nice, but nope, both new.

12/25/23 “Who is
Spoiler
Yungsheng Wang
?” (43:31)

Sarah & Buzzy host.

4:20 This week in J! history is 12/25/00 for Holiday Kids opening. Perhaps there will be a chance sometime for players in these one-offs to play again?

7:35 the 12/18 week of games:
Spoiler
Yungsheng went big on DDs and had a tourney lock.

Second Chance #1 one with new logo, new opening and new material. Staffers shown are Lucinda, Michele, Russell, Billy, Michael Harris, Sarah, Jimmy and Johhny came to the studio that day.

Mike lost to Cris Pannullo the first time.

Juveria had largest DD wager of the season and 108,200 total highest combined of the season.

Iris made a wise wager. Sarah gave her best “Okurrr”, but Ken is better at it.

Buzzy admired Juveria’s 51200 and Jason said Juveria was a buzzsaw in F1. Juveria did not want to feel scared with her daughters in the audience.
18:40 Host question ask Ken most surprising thing about hosting? Alex made it look easy but the FJ! Round is hard. Ken gets a card with a bunch of numbers to cover various scenarios. Michele prepares the card using pencil/eraser and old school calculator along with Hello Kitty notebook.

20:20 Chat with Hearts winner
Spoiler
Yungsheng who is working at home so not as well dressed as Sarah & Buzzy for once. YW bought four new bow ties for CWC but one did not pass wardrobe. YW was ToC alternate and CWC was made for players like YW (won 3 games) who did not quite qualify for ToC.

YW prepared for CWC by studying weak areas as well reinforcing things he knows a lot about. YW listened to a podcast about Shakespeare and watched operas on YouTube.

YW studied J! games from 2018 forward and kept a notebook for clues he did not know. YW applied for J! the end of 2020 and was called to be an alternate. He could not accept because he had recently appeared on Master Minds. He got the call again to be an alternate in April 2022.

In CWC Yungsheng had comebacks to win for knowing the FJ! clue his opponents did not get.

Tyler had flash cards in the green room and shared making it fun for others. After taping YW and others went to karaoke. Andrew is by far the best and he sang, “Dock of the Bay”. YW’s song is “Lose Yourself” although too many drinks affected performance.

YW’s husband will probably be working so YW could use support from others in Hearts group for ToC. YW’s husband has little tolerance for bouncing facts.

YW played trivia with Julia and her husband and they won against teams with more players.

Perhaps YW should get Guaranteed A boarding for knowing the right airline in semis?

YW focused on lights for buzzing in and being used to losing as part of law work helped in finals.

Ads on Spotify 34:30-36:05

YW did not know he had a tourney lock until doing the math and he considers himself bad at math.

YW’s lunch order is hot protein with veggie and no carbs. He likes to save snacks such as beef jerky for later as well as energy drinks.

YW’s proud stat is running the PROVERBIAL MESS category and his highlight is watching his games with comeback wins.

For the ToC YW is taking a study break for the holidays and will then work on things he should know including the AFI movie list to watch all of the films and learn actors, directors and awards.

YW will look at previous ToC for topics that come up. YW likes to study in more of a random way and chaos is good.

For ToC YW will get new ties and perhaps new suit or perhaps a tuxedo which Sarah says is okay.

1/1/24 “Who is Tyler Vandenberg?” 49:57

Sarah & Buzzy host and talk about their New Year’s and resolution. Sarah wants a better work/life balance and try to get to brushing teeth and washing her face each night as sometimes she falls asleep with her daughters.

Buzzy wants to be better about responding to emails after emailing George Saunders and getting a response from the author.

4:40 This week in J! history is 1/7/20 and first game of GOAT with intro played. Ken was not sure about competing and had to be convinced to do it. Buzzy was in the audience and it got better ratings than NBA Finals. Sarah says there will never be another GOAT tourney.

8:25 the 12/5 week of games:
Spoiler
Juveria was like a hot knife through butter and had a 2-day runaway. Juveria’s brother, Omar, lost on Survivor and perhaps he’ll get a 2nd chance.

10:05 chat with Juveria – it was special to win with daughters in the audience and wanted to play with no regrets on DDs. Juveria had S40 records in F1 with score, clues correct and amounts added on DDs.

To prepare for the CWC Juveria will get knowledge from husband and girls about stuff they know and will go through clues on J! daily calendar. Juveria can now envision the ToC.

13:42 the 12/26 game for SCC #1 and Emily went 1/3 going all in on each DD.

In his Semi Greg was 3/3 getting all the DDs correct.

Xanni played tough original game against Cris Pannullo. Raquel made smart FJ! round bet after not the best wager against Hannah Wilson.

Buzzy thinks Xanni and Christopher should have bet more in F1 to put more pressure on Greg.

Juveria being able to meet Martha Bath in CWC mentioned again.
20:40 Host chat question for Ken’s favorite episode in Season 39. He liked Masters finale with Mattea having James on the ropes.

21:30 chat with Tyler Vandenberg:
Spoiler

Mark Barrett comment: This was a very good segment and Tyler comes across quite well and lots of fun as he drops quotes and comments.

Tyler is getting better with his German, but Germans will quickly switch to English making it harder to practice German.

J! airs on AFN in Germany, but Tyler is unknown in public. When Tyler was first on J! he was working in L.A. at a rifle reserve co. Sarah thought after game 1 that Tyler was going to be around a long time, but he ran into Josh Saak in game 3.

Winning one game was a check mark moment for Tyler and now Tyler has lost to ToCers Josh and Yungsheng.

Tyler remembers watching J! 4th or 5th grade with Ken Jennings around 30 wins. Tyler did quiz bowl in college and only had 1 audition to get on J! It was during the pandemic and Tyler did well with a Cold Car category for mock play.

Tyler was not aware of the upcoming CWC and had not been watching J! as much. Mattea is young and can learn & grow so perhaps Tyler (under age 30 as well) can do the same. Hosts wonder how Tyler would do on J! in ten years. Tyler thinks he would be a better player and it would take luck, fate and Michael Davies to make it happen.

Tyler was sure of Warren Commission response to know he had won that game. Thanks to drill instructors it was easy for him to show poker face before response revealed.

Tyler promoted from 1st Lt. to captain between regular play and CWC. Tyler feels bulletproof when wearing his uniform and it helps him more than it might intimidate other players. Tyler shares a quote, “Look good, feel good, fight good” and also references A Few Good Men.

In the semis all three players bet it all on the FJ! clue. Tyler references Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights, “If you ain’t first, you’re last”.

Tyler was a high school musical kid and performed 4-5 roles in musical of Titanic. Tyler had studied Best Picture winners (Buzzy approves that tactic) and knew Oliver! but would not have got the other one, Gigi so glad only one was needed.

The hosts recalled that Nick Cascone appeared in the 1997 movie Titanic for connection to Tyler.

Tyler sole-solved the F1 final and nice to have the lead going into game 2. Yungsheng hit DD2 & DD3 and Tyler called him “calm under fire”.

Tyler was 92% correct when ringing in to not have a lot of errors. Tyler has not watched other S40 games although he does get things about the show popping up on his social media. He says Hearts group saved the best for last.

Tyler’s lunch was salad bar with protein of hard-boiled eggs & salmon for two days at the studio and drank Gatorade. Middle day Tyler had already played and stayed at hotel room to study.

Tyler’s proud stat is 3/4 on FJ clues in the CWC and perhaps his playing well will make Sarah happy to have more military personnel on the show.

Best part for Tyler was the people he met and talking in the green room.

Next week – the 1/1 week of games, Celebrity J! semi from Jan. 2 which Sarah says is one of her favorite games of the season and the winner of that game

Typed this post ahead of time on a Word page to make sure JBoard glitches did not cost me my work.

1/8/24 “Who is Lisa Ann Walter?” (30:16)

Michael Davies & Sarah host with no Buzzy.

It sounds like the two 2023-2024 winners so far from SCC will be in first CWC. The CWC will have play-in games that are audio only on TuneIn with Buzzy hosting. Those play-in games will air on Jan. 12 and CWC begins Jan. 16.

Michael sees everything on Reddit including polls and loves some of the ideas about J! Masters but ABC has more control about that event. Michael has more control about JIT that is not ABC primetime.

Standards and Practices does not allow study materials in green room on tape day and that was news to Sarah who did not know.

7:10 This day in J! history is 1/3/99 and JOHNNY GILBERT DOES SHAKESPEARE category. Now, when Johnny does a category it’s Sarah who works with him and Johnny will ask for help if it is a category about rap lyrics.

9:25 the Jan. 1 week of games.
Spoiler
Chat with Xani at 10:38 She went from runner-up (faced Cris Pannullo) to now J! champ (same for other finalists). Xanni knew to likely expect call for SCC and was ready having participated in trivia leagues, solved crosswords and used flashcards.

Xanni was prepared to take risks with wagers and having played sports, likes competitive environment. Xanni liked the LANDMARKS category.

For CWC Xanni will use flashcards more and watch Season 39 games to not be starstruck by meeting other champs.

14:13 – Tough loss for Sophia as she wrote Hollywood Sign quickly and J! staff thought/hoped she would catch her error.

Ads on Spotify 15:18-17:48

Randall made big 9200 DD wager to help make finals after losing to Cris Pannullo the first time playing. Sarah, of course, loved the John Green category and calls him a friend of the show.

When Andrew played the first time he lost to Yogesh and Rachel playing Ray Lalonde.

Matt lost to Cris Pannullo and Cris said in interview that Matt should make SCC. Sarah called SCC Finals 1 with Matt, Michael and Randall even although scoreboard might not have shown it.
20:20 Celeb J! for Semis #1
Spoiler
and ABC likes having ABC star in finals. That game on Jan. 2 won the ratings for the night.
22:00 chat with Lisa Ann who was very excited after the game. Lisa Ann already knew Mira outside of J! and expected to lose to her. Lisa Ann sounded like if she won Celeb J! that would be good enough and she might not want to go to ToC if asked.

Lisa Ann’s siblings have Ph.D.s and her parents instilled learning. Lisa Ann has been known for trivia for years and being told she should “be on Jeopardy!” was not always a compliment as she likes to explain things the way her father did on road trips.

Lisa Ann knew from childhood she wanted to be on J! but there was a time in her career she was too famous to be a regular contestant but not famous enough to be on Celebrity J!

Lisa Ann knows her deceased mom would be proud of her though might criticize her outfit. Lisa Ann wishes her mom had tried to get on J! and is happy to honor her mom by playing now.
26:35 Host question is how many languages does Ken speak? Alex used to answer 3 and add he could fool around in 8 or 9 others.

Ken can speak English & Spanish along with some Korean from his time in Korea as a kid. Ken fakes his way through languages reading clues and can call his wife, Mindy, for help with French.

Next Week: The Jan. 8 week of games and Celeb. J! on Jan. 9th with Dule, Katie and Stephen.

1/15/24 “Who is Katie Nolan?” (27:30)

Michael Davies & Sarah host. J! won Primetime Emmy for first time as category used to be part of Daytime Emmys.

Kenya Barris given copy of his clue framed.

For Buzzy hosting the TuneIn games the quote Buzzy made of himself was, “face for radio”.

Both rounds of the CWC have been taped and hosts said they are so good with incredible ending.

4:15 Day in J! history is 1/15/90 when Frank Spangenberg won his fifth game and went over winning limit so portion donated to charity. Michael recalled Frank later being on Grand Slam and being defeated by Dave Legler.

7:05 the 1/8 week of games
Spoiler
By random luck Matt from RI ran into a FJ! clue about his state.

8:20 chat with Matt who possibly could play Cris again if Matt makes it to the ToC. Matt happy to get to play more J! Jake D. also from RI though Matt does not know him. Yes, though could meet him also in ToC.

Matt has study habits to prepare for CWC and so far has not faced clues with stuff he learned from studying. Matt will also focus on mental part of preparing. The SCC had a good vibe with all the players.

1/9 game with Rotimi who is only 19 years old and got to play SCC because not available for HSRT.

Roy was dominant in SCC semis and originally lost against S. Webb.

Ads on Spotify 14:00 to 15:!5.

1/11 John had highest J! Round this season. Long also lost playing S. Webb. Pun made for Long shot coming with the win.

F1 game Long had zero after J! Round to end up doing 9200 doubled and then doubling again. Long’s philosophy was to go for it since playing good players.
17:15 Celeb J! and the hosts loved revisiting the NYT obits comment by Steven and then Katie zinging him with, “Looking for your friends?”

Katie was 3/3 on DDs in TJ! Round to end up winning and beat prior CJ! vets Christopher Meloni in QF then Steven Weber in Semis.

Katie did an AMA on Reddit and back and forth teasing with Steven was all in fun and no real animosity.

Chat with Katie at 19:45
Spoiler
and she prepared by being faithful J! viewer. She and her fiancé watch at dinner time and DVR to catch up later if he’s away.

Katie thought the set looked like as she imagined it while other sets she’s been on can look smaller in person. She cried seeing the set in person and the J! crew is very nice.

Katie thought Christopher then Steven would have buzzer edge having played previously. Katie is a big fan of Sam Buttrey and was happy to do a, “Bring it!” as well as the Holzhauer “all-in” movement. She says James is on “a heel run”.

Katie will study weak stuff before finals

Celeb J! on Tuesday have great ratings winning the night of everything on for viewers and 18-49 demographic.
23:35 Ken is asked his favorite dessert? While he acknowledges he hears it as cake or pie sometimes, he prefers cookies. Applause from other audience members is heard. Linda, the wife of a J! staffer, makes great cookies.

Next week: The 1/15 week of games, Celeb J! on the 16th with Mo Rocca, Heath McMahan, Rachel Dratch, & the SCC winner from 1/15.

1/22/24 “Who is Mo Rocca?” (30:41)

Sarah & Buzzy host and talk about Emma Stone. Sarah can’t reveal Emma’s test score. James H. and Matt A. traded social media posts at each other tying into the Emma J! news.

Podcast taped day after Buzzy hosted the play-in game for spot in CWC group 2.

4:55 This week in J! History is 1/26/22 when Rhone beat Amy. Amy will be in JIT which will air after ToC. Sarah said the JIT will have recent players as well as some more distant.

7:55 the 1/15 week of games:
Spoiler
Roy and Long both lost playing Stephen Webb first time on.

Chat with Long at 9:15 who will have a month gap between SCC & CWC. Buzzer is tough for Long as he was ringing in on almost every clue. He hopes to get better and will bet big again.

Long has seen James H. in Vegas. Long playing pickleball will have to wait as he has more studying to do. The first time Long was on, his brother and nephew were in the audience and SCC gave him redemption.

CWC #1 had 1980s PRO WRESTLING category as Ken has used that as answer to audience question about his favorite category. Sarah & Buzzy gave their attempts at imitating Hulk and Macho Man.

Sarah shared a tweet by J! champ Jesse Matheny about Juveria:
Queen Juveria, first of her name, mother of Daily Doubles and breaker of second chances

Buzzy agreed with Nik’s big bets on DDs that did not work out.

The hosts loved mentioning that Martha Bath played J! in 1972 with Art Fleming as host.

Buzzy as host of play-in games is part of J! history as those days had two J! hosts when Ken did CWC games and April Fool’s 1997 had Pat Sajak & Alex tape J! same day.

Sarah was happy Erin won as she hopes to see the question mark/explanation point earrings again. Buzzy wants Erin to contact him as he is curious about her FJ! wager.
Ads on Spotify from 19:08-20:23

1/16 Celeb J! game:
Spoiler
Rachel ran the opening 10 clues, but Mo went 3/3 on DDs in the TJ! Round. There could have been 3 women in finals until Mo won.

Heather wanting wine for FJ! response is still funny.
22:25 talk to Mo – Mo lost playing against John Berman in 2015. Mo has worked on stage with Rachel previously.

For the final Mo will do stretching which helps him relax. At home he likes to fold laundry to stretch and will have J! on. Mo plans to get enough sleep and may eat cheeries and salmon even though he does not really believe in brain food. It would be blueberries but he does not like those as much as cherries.

In Semis Mo had tight jeans so hard to stretch with them on, but he played well with them. No sure if he’ll wear more comfortable pants or no.

Mo grew up listening to musical cast albums so likes musicals clues/categories.
26:45 Host question and Ken is asked if he would write Seniors Genius Guides like his Junior ones? Ken jokes about them having large print and covering WWII and Founding Fathers.

Sarah shares that her older daughter’s 4th grade class read one of Ken’s Jr. Guide and kid wonders about Ken coming to her school since she knows him.

Next week: The 1/22 week of games and Celebrity J! Finals on Jan. 23 including the winner being asked if that person will accept invite to ToC (after the upcoming one next month).

1/29/24 "Who is Celebrity Jeopardy! Champion
Spoiler
Lisa Ann Walter?"
(43:22)

Michael Davies & Buzzy Sarah host.

Upcoming ToC will be 27 champions including Celebrity J! winner from last year, Ike.

2:05 This week in J! history moment is 1/29/14 and Arthur Chu’s 2nd game ending in a tie. The hosts acknowledge that Arthur could be classified as villain like James.

Mark Barrett comment: Using an Arthur moment makes me wonder if Arthur will be in the JIT? It was not hinted at in any way, though.

4:15 – The 1/22 week of games:
Spoiler
Ron was scared of DDs but knew he had to try to find them.

Ads on Spotify from 5:08-6:23 and again 8:35-9:05

Robbi is tall and after his game Ken worked in a comment about about Gandalf, the ring and Mordor.

Sarah loved the Taylor Swift-themed board and the SCIENCE IN POP SONGS categories. Sarah liked Ittai’s chat story about meeting Mattea & Sam at a Vegas trivia event.
10:35 the final of Celebrity Jeopardy!:
Spoiler
Michael wanted to raise the writing level and game play level for Celeb J! Celebs are not tested to complete.

Previous to Celeb J! Michael has had the opportunity to speak to all three of the finalists and all three were already fans of J!

Sarah liked the categories specifically worked in to honor the names of the 3 finalists, especially the MO ROCCA DRINKING VODKA WITH CHEWBACCA.
13:55 – Host question wondering if Ken has a library card? Yes, more than one but uses his phone and not an actual card.

Ken’s younger child will be intern as Seattle Public Library soon and Ken worked in an opportunity for audience to applaud librarians in general.

Michael has a library card he uses at Bridgehampton Library on Main Street in NY. Sarah’s kids also library cards.

15:00 chat with Celeb J! winner:
Spoiler
Lisa Ann Walter
Like Ike, another comedian won. Lisa Ann grew up reading history and learning from her parents. Lisa Ann’s mom was a trivia buff and they would listen to talk radio in the car.

Lisa Ann’s ex-husband watches J! with Lisa Ann and he wonders how she knows some of the stuff she knows.

As a comic, Lisa Ann is competitive on stage and comics don’t like to lose, especially to hecklers.

To Lisa Ann who grew up watching J! and other games shows, J! has a gravitas over other shows. Watching J! prepared Lisa Ann for the types of categories and clues used, but not the buzzer. It can take her a round to get better on the timing.

Lisa Ann is a fast reader and can have her response ready before Ken finishes reading.

Sarah & Michael noted that Mo & Katie were two of the best celebs on the buzzer timing and for Katie indicated that playing videos might have helped.

Lisa Ann did not seemed to be joking when she said some friends gave her holy water and she sprinkled some on her hands to help with the buzzer.

When opera clues came up Lisa Ann knew them all thanks to her dad even she if she did not ring in first.

Michael compliments Lisa Ann that she would make a good late night talk host.

Lisa Ann was satisfied with her J! experience just by winning her QF match. In the semis Lisa Ann already knew Mira from other events.

Olivia Colman final had Lisa Ann thinking Helen Mirren at first until realizing The Queen was not current enough. She thought Mira (an Academy Award winner) would get it right.

Mira’s whole family was in the audience and Lisa Ann worked in a quote from Steel Magnolias about them.

From the taping gap of semis to finals Lisa Ann worked on what to wear. She wore leather which made her sweat under the studio lights.

After the finals Lisa Ann exchanged info with Mo so they can meet up in NY sometime.

Lisa Ann knew the finals FJ! response immediately and thought for sure Mo would get it, if not Katie. Lisa Ann’s mom (passed away after Abbott Elementary pilot never saw Lisa Ann reach her success of late. Lisa Ann’s mom love to read mystery and some more than once.

Lisa Ann is a single mother of four and was happy to support the entertainment fund charity which helps so many.

Lisa Ann seemed to have no idea Ike was invited and accepted spot in ToC coming next month and was emotionally stunned to receive her own invite for the following ToC which may be this year or next year.

Lisa Ann instantly said a terrified yes to accept after being "cordially and respectfully" invited and Michael said there was no pressure or requirement to say, yes.

I thought it was Michael & Sarah today.

Also, I'm pretty sure Michael went out of his way to say "later this year" when it came to the next ToC.

Yeah, Sarah. Fingers have a mind of their own, sometimes.

For the ToC the "later this year" came after the "next year". It could have been a next season thought? We'll find out at some point. What was not made 100% clear is a ToC in this current winter and another one in November 2024.

2/5/24 “Who is
Spoiler
Juveria Zaheer?
” (53:56)

Sarah & Buzzy host. Buzzy will be in audience for ToC and at J! honors on Feb. 22nd. Since it’s Feb. Honors & Hall of Fame induction will be indoors on WoF stage.

The hosts like the graph for game dynamics of CWC semis #2.

3:50 This week in J! History is UToC debut on 2/9/05 and the hosts discuss how it led to Brad and Jerome facing Ken already seeded into the finals.

7:35 The 1/29 week of games.
Spoiler
All players in five figures for Semis #1 & #2.

Sarah shot the HARLEM HELLFIGHTERS category with Robin at GMA and Sarah liked that Erin wore her earrings again in Semis #3.

Buzzy likes Juveria’s big wagers in Finals #1 and appreciates her path of 0x to SCC to CWC to ToC with incredible stats and calls her not a dark horse for the ToC like Andrew He, but a horse.

15:00 The post game chat airs after Finals 2 and Ken did not realize Juveria had the match locked. Juveria is not good with mental math and had to work it out several times that she had won.

ARMY TECHNOLOGY is not Juveria’s category although did mention she has 2/3rds of an undergraduate degree in American Studies. Ken cracked that the final third would be all about Black Hawk helicopters.

Juveria likes making ToC as Rowan did and will get to meet Ray Lalonde. Juveria has what’s called a tidal wave of support with her SCC & CWC groups.
17:40 Host question wondering how long Ken was a fan of J! before being a played. Ken quips it was the day before drawing hearty audience laughter, but in reality its 4th grade in Korea and J! came on one channel available. He and classmates became fans of show when Trebek began hosting.

18:50 Chat with CWC winner:
Spoiler
Juveria who came in 3rd playing against Hannah Wilson when originally appearing on May, 8, 2023.

The CWC QF score looked better than it seemed to Juveria. Patti Palmer was charming, funny and wonderful. Juveria has learned that one can’t be a perfectionist on J!

Juveria will never forget the semis as the guys were great on the buzzer and she appreciated Robbi’s all-in DD wager. Juveria wrote the message to her daughters because she thought her run on J! was over. Juveria knew it was Bligh and was shocked when Robbi missed it.

Lunch was before the finals and Juveria was loose in thinking she was not supposed to be there after escaping the semis.

For Finals 1 DJ Round Juveria liked the categories and there was no question about going all-in on the DDs. Michael was a buzzsaw on the signaling device.

Juveria had a mix-up with Melbourne & Victoria with state/city and even after re-reading the clue did not catch her error as she was so confident she had it right.

Juveria then shared she has a best friend that lives in Adelaide. Juveria thought about betting $4,000 on F1 clue but went big thinking dropping to $20,000 on a miss would still be in good position even if Michael doubled.

In F2 Juveria had a good lead and did not want to guess when not sure such as knowing Chelsea but not going for it. Juveria watch the scoreboard to track her lead while trying to find DDS and also noticing the guys going back and forth sharing clues which was fine by her.

When doing the math to assure herself she had it won even the camera guy wondered, “What is she doing?” in knowing it was a lock. Juveria cites, “Measure twice, cut once”.

Ads on Spotify 33:05-35:30

Juveria has to fight imposter syndrome moving ahead to ToC while Buzzy noted that she is a 7x champ now. On the other side is Juveria wondering if other players will be nervous about playing her.

In preparing for the ToC Juveria is the flash card queen. Juveria won’t be nervous on stage as she sees unwell people at work and the J! crew work well to make all the contestants comfortable. Juveria faces tougher situations with day to day job than J! stage.

Ads on Spotify 41:50-44:05

When meeting Ray, Juveria will try not to come on strong. Mattea has mentioned loving to watch Juveria play and Juveria’s daughters love Mattea who is like a cool teen to Juveria’s daughters.

Juveria’s lunch is drinking water as not eating works better for her. She has gone many shifts without eating so used to doing it.

Juveria’s proud stats are attempts per game being high and hanging with Michael Menkus on the buzzer. Juveria worst attempts tally is 44 and her best is 52.

In prepping for the ToC Juveria will force herself to learn about stuff she doesn’t like. Even though only six, Juveria’s daughter can attend ToC taping (along with dad, sister aged 10 and brother Omar from Survivor). Kids will be babysat by friend of Omar’s from Survivor during Honors.

Juveria shared that her husband is in the contestant pool. Buzzy shared that since he is not a producer he can state on the podcast he’ll be rooting for Juveria. Juveria hopes that her time on J! inspires others to take the Anytime Test.
Next week: The 2/5 week of games.

2/12/24 “Who is Andy Tirrell?” (44:04)

Michael Davies & Sarah host right after ToC taped and there was a 4.7 earthquake felt in the studio.

At the taping was a friend of Jerry Harvey (reigning champ when Ken won his first game) and Jerry is doing well.

The hosts mentioned discussion on Reddit about Sam Buttrey’s “Bring it” and other contestants still doing it. They’re fine with it and it will be heard during the upcoming ToC.

5:10 This week in J! History is 2/16/11 and last game of IBM Challenge with intro and Alex’s opening remarks played.

7:40 The 2/5 week of games
Spoiler
and another plug given for Mira’s podcast “History on Trial” and viewers will have to wait to see if Garfield comes up in the CWC.

Deb’s savvy wager got a nod as well as Matt being compared to Milhouse.

The postgame chat was played for the 2/6 game and Ken only got as far as Klein in thinking about German for small. One of the players considered Pinocchio.

Deb learned to bet better and eat more than from first time playing.

Ads on Spotify 11:10 – 12:25 & from 33:55-37:15.

For the Johnny Cash FJ! clue the writers at pre-tape meeting had made it clear the biopic title would be wrong and it had to the proper song title to be correct.

Michael got in a mention that one of his ancestors made boots for the Duke of Wellingotn.
15:00 Audience question asking if Ken misses competing? Ken gets asked this question a lot and answers it in different way. Ken says he is nostalgic about playing but likes the job security of hosting. Ken says he is retired from playing according to hosts.

16:10 chat with Sarah only & Andy Tirrell:
Spoiler
Andy was an alternate for the Professors Tourney and Sam Buttrey was the first person he met on that taping day.

When Andy came back for regular play he saw Cris Pannullo play some games before going up against him. Andy thought of Buster Douglas taking down Mike Tyson. Andy retains titles of J! champ and Giant Killer.

Andy was the alternate for the upcoming ToC so he got to see Cris again as well as Juveria. Not only did Andy meet other 2024 ToCers but there were also champs seasons past at the taping.

Lloyd Sy sent Andy a copy of The Scarlet Pimpernel as a surprise gift.

Nice things were sent about Martha Bath again and she was fine with not moving on in CWC & then ToC since she is now on a trip to Egypt & Jordan.

Andy grew up loving reading & trivia and learning facts without trying.

Andy and some others from ToC day played bar trivia at O’Brien’s and came close to winning. Andy would not name the super champ who was also there.

Andy went to favorite stat without the normal prompting and he had 4 sole solves of the FJ! clue in the 6 games he played. The two were triple stumpers, so no opponent has been correct on the FJ! clue when he has played.

Without Buzzy there to ask it, Andy’s lunch choice was not mentioned and only the general memory of parking lot lunch during Professors Tournament was as in depth as it got.

Andy’s last name, Tirrell, is properly said to sound like (NFLer Terrell Owens is how it sounds to me) Terrell and not Tir-rell. Andy says his ancestors were not able to spell well.

Andy’s son is now 5 and his reaction to J! is, “It’s just humans talking.”

Andy does not like generational conflicts and got a little professor lecture-like and I zoned out like I was back in college watching the clock slowly move as I kept glancing at the podcast timer.

It was wonderful for Andy to have a great view to watch the ToC and enjoy his 4th time in the studio. There were so many people there that there was overflow viewing in the WoF stage.

2/19/24 "What is Jeopardy! Honors?" (37:13)

Sarah & Buzzy host and talk about Valentines. Suresh Krishnan at ToC give the J! staff boxes of chocolate.

4:15 – this week in J! history: from 2/23/22 when Christine & Henry go to tiebreaker clue.

6:55 the 2/12 week of games:
Spoiler
Sarah happy with GENIUS: MLK/X category.

Funny that Long got to right Long for FJ! round and Buzzy supports big DD wagers by Long and Kat.

Postgame chat from 2/14 and Vince used term playing with "host" money instead of house money.

Postgame chat from 2/15 (last of CWCs QFs) and Ken ask Diandra how she stacks up against others in the semis. Her response was, "Bring it".

2/16 Vince not watching scoreboard when getting DJ30 clue to preserve lock for Mira, but good revenge for Sriram getting Montreal clue ahead of Vince while game was honored.
14:10 Ken is asked about players searching for the Daily Doubles. In 2004 Ken played top down. But when playing against someone looking for DDs then you have to retaliate by doing the same is the winning play.

Buzzy likes controlling board and higher value clues can allow that over lower amounts more of a buzzer toss-up.

When Sarah was on Clue Crew she liked clues in order since they were ordered that way for a reason. Such a category would not play as well when taken out of order.

15:45 Jeopardy! Honors on rainy night so loud outside that blue carpet inside on Trebek stage for interviews with arrivals while ceremony on WoF stage.

Kevin Belle got permission to show up as Whiskey Ginger and asked for earlier ToC rehearsal time to have more time to get ready.

The winners of the J! Honors categories were named in the podcast. The ceremony will be shown Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:00 PT on YouTube.

Hall of Fame – Steven Dorfman – his family there to accept and Michele Loud & Billy Wisse present it
23:00 - Chat with retired senior researcher Suzanne Stone about working with Steven Dorfman:
Spoiler
Steven began with the show in June 1984 before premiere and even after his passing in early 2004 J! was still using Dorfman clues.

J! has a database that shows when a clue was written, input into the system and who was the writer and researcher, etc.

Suzanne recalls a story of Steven calling a souvenir shop at Disneyland for information about a gift. The worker mistook Steven as an exterminator and that led to a J! category about VERMIN on 1/15/86.

At first Merv Griffin, Bob Murphy and Alex Trebek preferred more meat & potatoes academic clues while Steven advocated for some clues/category to be more irreverent or pop culture.
Steve got a category in about famous pigs and it played well with contestants and audience members to show more fun things were okay on the Trebek version of the show.

Steven would find clues by reading old books in the J! library including some books that were used on the Fleming version.

Steven would talk to celebs on the lot and he met George Burns’ driver & assistant and got invited to a party where he and some other J! staffers met George Burns. Steven talked to George about his career to learn stuff and Suzanne took a picture of a mug George had with "God" on it.
