Matt Amodio was seen on today's opening.

Each player converted a DD and April did enough on hers to have the lead for the FJ! round. Thanks to Luigi doing 13200+2500 when trailing by 1800, April took the lead on DJ29 when time ran out before the 2000 clue could be revealed.

April led 16600 to 15700 to 11000 for the FJ! round and correctly solved the FJ! clue. She won the game, right? Nope, Luigi caught a break when April only went up to 18401. April's thinking on the wager? It's easy to know her regret afterwards, while the strategy going in is beyond my calculating competence.

Cue up the Herm Edwards rant.

After the NFL category played Ken made a comment about the players doing well enough that they will not go viral on YouTube. That may be so although April misidentifying a famous QB for probably the most famous ever was a strange miss and especially so after she knew enough to get the more difficult $1000 clue.

April does win best in signage for the day.

Ken had to do the score reversal since the OED qualifier negates close responses.

The FJ! clue was a quick solve as I could think of no reason to guess anyone else. April had the game in the bag (or can as the case may be) and probably caused some groans from the rest of taping day's players. Nice work by Luigi to get by a game with both contestants after him with strong efforts.

Ooh! Ooh! Teacher! Teacher! Call on me first!

I have no idea what April was thinking other than she was leading by $900, so just double that and add $1. Not that that wager accomplishes anything that I can see other than laughter.

Even though it's close at the top, April can wager to lockout 3rd and still finish ahead on a TS but Luigi cannot. So let's say April truly hates the category, so she should wager $0 obviously but definitely no more than $899. If she just kinda hates the category she wagers $5401-5599 to take care of 3rd and hope 2nd doesn't know.

So I'm just going to assume she knows nothing about wagering, froze under the lights, and scribbled some random number and crossed her fingers.

Justin's wager is actually halfway decent as 2nd has to wager at least $6301 to lock him out which drops his score to $9399 on a miss. A happy accident or not?

I was really assuming that all aspiring contestants would be studying wagering theory a ton during the break to give themselves the best chance possible to win. 8-)

Something about the wagering addition doesn't look right...

I think April just mistakenly bet (approximately) the amount she would have would have after a miss with a rational wager, instead of the rational wager.

I'm guessing Luigi's wager is the typo and Luigi actually wagered all but a dollar. In that case, Luigi's wager was probably not so good, either, except in the sense that it just about maximized Luigi's winnings since Luigi got Final right. To stay ahead of April on a TS (given a rational wager by April), Luigi's wager should top out at $13,900. $4,699 might be even better in that it stays ahead of a $0 bet by Justin.

Watching yesterday’s and today’s episodes live was quite a treat. I got to see absolute dominance and a match with the lead decided by the very last clue (or lack thereof).

I learned that they tell the contestants the start to the right question to film a mid-commercial bumper (for instance, they told the contestants to write “What” for yesterday’s episode and “Who” for today’s). During the middle of that bumper and writing down What, April realized she goofed on her wager. She tried to ask production to change it, but she hit the big “lock-in” button, so she was told no. Sarah had to come out and console her, and April’s makeup needed to be redone before Final.

I felt bad for her. She seemed like a fun, bubbly personality that just made a small mistake. According to her reddit post, she did the math right on her paper to one-up Luigi doubling up, but just forgot the 4. I’m proud that she was able to make it to the end of the Overheard chat before promptly exiting stage left. The audience rightfully gave her a round of applause. I hope she gets into the next SCT.

Very entertaining game. Relatively easy final given all of the ways it could have gone, especially this of all weeks.

The wager from first: a puzzlement. Especially after the crucial DD.

Just so you know, it looks really silly when you say something like this when the explanation for the wager—that it was a mistake—was explained earlier in the thread.

Did this goof have something to do with the new "5 minute wagering rule"

Thank you for sharing the explanation. I could tell by the expression on her face that she had made the wrong bet.

She deserves a spot in the next SCT, especially if Luigi goes on a long run.

When I saw the FJ category I wondered if we'd have a "correct at time of tapping" disclaimer.

Instaget for me.

I for one thought April brought everything the Contestant Coordinators look for: knowledge base, personality plus, cool under pressure (as we see in her excellent DJ comeback). And then my jaw absolutely dropped at the sight of her wager. OMFG!

Maybe the dear lady will come on the board and meet us and explain, but otherwise all we have is speculation.

I have often said that strategic thinking must come first in selecting a wager for FJ, with "how strong is this category for me?" a distant, DISTANT second consideration. Unless you truly hate the category, you MUST bet for the win. What happened here, we may never know.
