No guesses on the ones I missed. Had Hebrews on Wednesday. Friday I was mosly joking with "They called it Newcastle, because they built a new castle?" but I'll take it.

Have seen Alien (but none of the others). Don't remember Newcastle if I visited.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Corinthians as a guess, not sure I would have remembered there was an epistle named Hebrews.
Ran out of time trying to come up with Yakutsk.

Knew the Conrad/Nostromo/Alien connection
Got Hardy more from the novelist

I missed the word "west" in reading Monday's clue, which would at least have ruled out Mozambique (which seemed like good odds because it has a big coastline).

I knew little enough to be confident about "Hebrews".

I remember reading Roger Angell's account of the 1980 World Series, the last game of which he watched with a long-suffering Phillies fan, who turned to Angell and said "kiss me, Hardy" upon the concluding strikeout.

I had heard the Nostromo thing once, I'm sure, but I forgot.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Not to offend anybody, but I should have gotten Wed. "correct." The easiest one of the week!... ;)

Partly because of this week, my FJ record is by far the worst at this point in the season ever...

If I get nothing else out of this week, I feel my 'Attucks was overvalued for $2k' remark is vindicated. Also, thank you for polling that one :D

Whew! After going 5/5 last week, I have a rough return to earth. Fortunately, Newcastle kept me from getting the golden sombrero of shame.

I got Hebrews with the prior knowledge that there were issues with the clue; without that I would have had to decide whether to rule out Hebrews by the clue's wording or assume the wording was a goof.

I've heard of Yakutsk but was so distracted by Russia + permafrost = Siberia that I couldn't take the "alphabetically last" part to get there.

Thought of Sri Lanka but talked myself into Indonesia. Didn't recall the news item.

Thought of Hardy but knew no reason to pick him over the several other Victorian novelists I knew. Thought of Gridley, but didn't know any Victorian novelists by that name. Guessed Dickens in desperation.

All the clues the writers got right, I got wrong. And vice versa. I'm checking the box that says "I ruled out Wednesday's 'correct' response because I knew that Hebrews is not generally considered to be by Paul and/or is not generally considered to be an epistle". I instead gave the response that many internet sites say is correct. It depends on how you count quotations, I guess. All I know is Romans is the only possibly correct response to this misbegotten clue.

Have seen Alien at least twice, once in the last two years or so. Could have told you the name of the ship and where it came from. Didn't put that together for Thursday's FJ. I got maybe a little farther than some in realizing the clue didn't have to refer to a Science Fiction author. Having also seen The Duellists, I figured I'd guess an author with some swashbuckle to him. Walter Scott.

Played Risk once, 45 years ago. No clue on that clue. Knew Crispus Attucks and Zane Grey.

This may be statistically the worst week for J!Boardies. Yet again, this is the first time(and probably the only time) that the ENTIRE WEEK is ToC Finals.

Don't you mean "specifically"? By those who have studied? I spent a fair amount of time in Sunday School and church in my misspent youth and shared both misapprehensions until this week. (It's possible that I didn't think of Hebrews because of some buried memory that eliminated it, but unlikely...) The latter might be better modified by "technically." I find the uncertainty with the number of "quotations" far more troubling...
