Worse. Almost a decade younger than me.
And a year younger than my father. Mattea herself is 7 months younger than me.

Poker legend Doyle Brunson, a/k/a "Texas Dolly", May 14 at age 89. Brunson won the World Series of Poker main event twice, in 1976 and 1977, and his 10 total WSOP titles rank second (alongside Johnny Chan and Phil Ivey) to Phil Hellmuth's 16. Brunson's 1978 book Super/System is considered one of the most influential of the game.

Hearing her name makes me flash back to my J! experience more than any other correct response from my games (yes, even more than Ben-Hur). RIP.

James just picked up a get on her in the last Masters quarterfinal.

I attended the Rock Hall induction ceremony where she was inducted (again) a couple years ago; she did not appear in person and sent her acceptance by prerecorded video greeting. I understand she had been ill for some years.

Shoot, I had the oldies radio station on while gardening today, and they played "Proud Mary." I missed whether they announced her passing. RIP.

Here's a clip of the referenced appearance with Johnny Carson.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

That was a risky thing to say, and of course Ames was Jewish

At 95, Ed Ames had been among the oldest living notable performers who charted on the pop/rock/easy/R&B, etc. charts.

Still around: Ray Anthony (101, "Theme From 'Peter Gunn'" + albums, 3 archive hits), Tony Bennett (96, a lot, a lot), Doc Severinsen (95, a lot, a lot).

With 2 Archive clue text hits, George Maharis, star of Route 66, at 94.

It's okay to raise your hand if you didn't know this was a real person, and not just a joke pseudonym of George Michael Bluth in Arrested Development.

Did not see that. So Carole King and Jeff Barry are the last ones standing from the three great pre-Beatles “Brill Building” (but don’t say that to Al Kooper 8-) pop-rock songwriting teams: Goffin-King, Barry-Greenwich, and Mann-Weil, collectively responsible for dozens of US-charting Top-40 singles. (Leiber and Stoller were arguably better than all three of the others, but weren’t really Brill Building.)

I looked at a list of her songs, and some of the titles I had always assumed were by Leiber and Stoller.

Barry Mann is still standing.

.....and, related, Michael Stoller recently turned 90.

Does that make him the last Mann standing?
