RIP to him, but that book will forever haunt my nightmares.

Glenda Jackson, age 87. She won two Best Actress Oscars in the 1970s (Women in Love [1970] and A Touch of Class [1973]) as well as two Emmys for her work on the 1971 BBC drama Elizabeth R. A Best Leading Actress in a Play Tony for Three Tall Women in 2018 completed the "Triple Crown of Acting" for her, making her the most recent of 24 people to accomplish that feat.

She took a hiatus from acting to serve as an member of the British Parliament for the Labour party from 1992 to 2015 for the north London borough of Hampstead and Kilburn (formerly Hampstead and Highgate), retiring from politics in 2015 to return to acting.

In an odd Oscar tidbit, Women in Love was released in 1969. It was released across the pond in September so I have to assume it was not released in the US until 1970.

Casablanca was released in December 1942 but only in NYC and LA. Since it wasn't released throughout the country until 1943 that's the year it was considered for Best Picture.

IMDb shows March 25, 1970 as the US release date, yeah.

I'd recommend the 2019 TV movie Elizabeth Is Missing, for which Glenda Jackson won a BAFTA and International Emmy. It was nice to see Jackson acting again after her long career in politics. The story about a woman dealing with Alzheimer's disease aired on PBS in January 2021.

I'm not sure if this should be noted in its own thread for its relevance to Jeopardy!, but I'm posting it here since Merle Glickman's death was mentioned in the 2022 RIP thread. I just discovered that former Art Fleming-era Jeopardy! champion and former Super Jeopardy! contestant Burns Cameron passed away at age 84:

What a loss. Burns was a regular boardie years ago. Never met him irl but I nonetheless felt like I really got to know him. At least as of when he used to be active online, he never stopped wanting to play on the show again.

Burns certainly was historic as a five-time champion, but he wasn't the first.

according to my leaderboard, Burns Cameron was the highest-earning player of the Fleming era. a true legend in the show's history, he'll be very much missed.

All the sources I can easily find indicate that it began playing in New York on November 26, 1942, but didn't play in Los Angeles until January 1943 (along with the rest of the country). If it had played in L.A. in 1942, it would have been considered a 1942 film for Academy Awards purposes.

According to this website the early release in NY took advantage of the Allied capture of Casablanca. The city fell about 2 weeks before.
