Perhaps to state the obvious, even with the DD double-up, this was a pretty close one to start Troy off. He was one or two pre-Final clues away from not having a lock, which in this case would have been a loss.

DD2 saved Troy's day as Erin and Hillary were no Subarus. Troy owes Hillary a something for her getting DJ30 ahead of Erin trying to get it which would have cost Troy the game.

Erin's earrings got chat time attention as they should.

I am snakebit on FJ! clues this week and wrote Canterbury. At least I knew about important stuff like THE ACTOR'S MIDDLE INITIAL better than the players did today.

Do not play the drinking game for "uh" and/or "please" when watching the game.

Celeb J! tonight.

It was great to see Troy (JBoard member) get the win after having to try more than a decade to get on.

I'll bring up one post back when the discussion was how to beat James H.: viewtopic.php?p=305823#p305823

That was my response too. Given another minute or two to think about it, I probably would've understood the significance behind "three 16th century English queens".

BTW, the bit about More being buried at the correct response place depends on your definition of the correct response place and your definition of his body. (His body's in the chapel on the complex grounds. His head's somewhere else.)

coin flip between Westminster & Canterbury. Reread the clue, & picked up on the queens.
most are probably thinking queens regnant instead of queens consort.

I was pretty sure Thomas More wouldn't be in Westminster, but from there I had nothing.

Last night's episode of Lingo had a HUGE upset. As I was watching, I was thinking to myself, "I really hope I won't be as disappointed after watching Troy on J! tomorrow." And boy this game was really close to disaster. :?

I know I was. British History is a wheelhouse category for me usually, but I was embarrassingly lost on this one.

I wouldn't have gotten FJ right in May or before, and probably would've gone with Westminster. But thanks to my London trip last summer, I nailed it. Got to see the chapel where they're buried at the Tower, and have the pic to prove it. Not the first trivia question that trip helped me with, either. Travel helps!

Congrats Troy!

My first thought was St Peter Ad Vincula but I figured although it was more correct the landmarks category was pointing to the more general Tower of London answer. It could have been my liberty enlightening the world moment.

In THE SERIES' AUTHOR for $400, "Who is Meyer?" was a correct response. Has anyone made a list of the games in which a contestant's surname appears in either a clue or a correct response?

If Erin had gotten in on that one, Troy loses by not being able to ring in and say his own name.

Congratulations to Schliemann, didn’t know that was you until someone mentioned it the other day.

Congrats to Troy on a well deserved victory!

In addition to the clue on Meyer I also thought that it was strange that there was a clue on Nehru and then the one that mentioned NAIRU in the same round.

I also said Westminster Abbey for FJ. I probably should have known to guess the Tower of London; it feels like that it has been a correct response to FJ many times in the past.

Troy looked very nervous to me — not surprising given his 20 years of trying to get on. Yes, that DD double-up was good for him but he did have a Coryat of $22k. We’ll have to wait on the box score.
