Fun with GSN's "Switch"

Post by MarkBarrett »

New show started tonight. Host is Jeff Hephner: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0378363/ with lots of credits like John Michael Higgins of America Says and Celebrity Jeopardy!. Perhaps he can do Celeb J! next season.

5 contestants are lined up with a big 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 in front of them. A trivia question is asked. Ring in and get it right and go to the #1. Miss and go to the #5. Another question is asked and another spot is filled. Last player goes to the remaining available number. It is not multiple choice.

Next round everyone answers each multiple choice question. Green for right and red for wrong. If it goes:

Red - Red - Red - Red - Green then fifth position goes to 1, 1st to 2, 2nd to 3, 3rd to 4 and 4th now to 5 on the end and in danger of elimination after the round.

It's shuffling around with smiling and clapping after each question.

Next round there are only four players remaining. And the next round just three. Whoever is behind the #1 wins and goes to the bonus round to try for $10,000 with the other two contestants out. As is typical on GSN shows, the winner gets $1,000 just for making it to the bonus round.

Bonus round is starting at 5th position and 60 seconds to answer questions verbally with no multiple choice. Get it right and move up a notch. Miss and go back a number. If you go from the 2 to the 1, answer the question correctly to win the big bucks.

The questions seemed mostly in the range of first two rows of J! clues and can be seen here: https://bobbymgsk.wordpress.com/2023/01 ... ut-switch/

or YT with the full ep. here:
Spoiler
There is no traditional chat and instead a graphic at the beginning gave player first name, city, state and job as they went to their initial spot.

Who was the first person to win the Indianapolis 500?

Yeah, like there would be a contestant on the show who would know that.

Yeah, that made me laugh out loud. I get that in the bonus round it's not exciting if the contestant quickly goes from 5-4-3-2-1 to win the $10K so there are harder questions in the mix to cause a back step. But that question? Way out of place.

2/5 for Go Set A Watchman

1/5 for American Telephone & Telegraph

1/5 for Chopin’s birth country

1/4 for Senator age

1/3 for Most Abundant Element in Earth’s Atmosphere

That is GSN for you.

2/8 episode - Wow!

What happened?
Spoiler
Rachel gets every question right and spends the whole show at number 1 until missing the last question right before the bonus round when she had Mars as Roman counterpart of Hades instead of Pluto. The contestant gifted with the unexpected move to #1 then wins the bonus round.
Game shows--gotta love 'em.

That question was worded incorrectly. They should have just said “underworld” rather than “Greek underworld”. Pluto is obviously the “Roman underworld”.

Draper James == Reese Witherspoon, won’t forget that.

Crazy when a question is asked that is already outdated.

“of the 17 celebrities who won an EGOT”

18 now as Viola Davis won her Grammy, completing the EGOT this past Sunday.

Justin should know it was Jack Nicholson who said “You can’t handle the truth”.

Tom Cruise’s line was “I want the truth.”

From the 2/21 ep.

Which is tallest?
A Shetland Pony -- Kevin Hart -- An NHL Hockey Net

1 2 3 4

Player 1 guessed the pony and it's unknown what 3 & 4 guessed. The host was almost as amused as I was in trying to navigate the question. Kevin Hart is 5'2". Come on, people.

I’ll admit, I only knew “super like” == swipe up because it was asked on Ellen show.

Anne Geddes 2/2 for GSN contestants.

Painful final round. Some good gets from Shira.

Robert, office manager, Wichita Falls, TX seemed very familiar so I suspect this was not his first game show appearance.

Dude knew DART. Not the typical Switch contestant.

Whoa, put "asteroid DART" in Google and got a surprise.
