Re: LL Season 96
Anyone else feel like this season is harder than usual? It seems like there are low get rates every MD. So far, I'm down around 70 points from usual.

Re: LL Season 96
The last 3 MDs have been brutal for me, as I have gone 4/18 on the questions. But before that I was playing about 100 points above my career correct answer percentage and only had one MD with fewer than 3 correct, though I did go 0(0) on that one MD.
Re: LL Season 96
Oof, I just checked my QPct and it's below .600. Still, plenty of time to progress back to the norm.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Re: LL Season 96
I've been plugging along with mostly 4s and 5s all season, and I just got my first 9(6), on a set that felt pretty unlikely for me. Pippin, Roz Chast, and "Knots Landing" all seem like stuff I'd normally miss, but I knew them all for one reason or another. (Ask me about any other musical/basketball player homophone—if there is one, any other New Yorker cartoonist that isn't Charles Addams, and any other soap opera, and I probably miss each of them.) It was a weird set, and only one other person in my A rundle got all six.
Re: LL Season 96
This is only my second regular season, but it "feels" harder than last season. Last season, I answered 41 correctly in 25 match days for a get rate of 2.92 per day, finishing 5th out of 22. This season I've answered 41 correctly in 13 matches for 3.15 per day and I'm 11th out of 20. My get rate is a little higher, but my standing is significantly lower. So it makes it seem a lot harder.

I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Midseason classic is up.
I had a dream that I was asleep and then I woke up and Jeopardy! was on.
Re: LL Season 96
Seems harder for me, but it doesn't seem quite so hard for my opponents!
I think I'm just going to have to accept the fact that I'm the LL equivalent of what baseball would call a 4-A player, and assume that I'm just going to keep bouncing between A and B.

Re: LL Season 96
I saw "drupe," went to almonds, and accidentally misinterpreted "manzanilla" as "marzipan." It was the difference between a loss and a tie. Maybe I'll eventually learn to take my time on every MD.
Re: LL Season 96
I cannot believe how hard ETAOIN SHRDLU played. To me, this is trivia 101, and I confidently game my OQL captain Reddpen a 0 on it, only for him (and 92% of LLamas) to miss it.
Re: LL Season 96
The letters were pretty obvious, given the next six, but I've never come across the exact order (and I was one of the 92% -- I put EATION).

Wondering if anyone else may have gotten it from reading a Frederic Brown SF/fantasy story as a teen......

Re: LL Season 96
I may be on a four-game losing streak, but I've already exceeded my win and 3-point totals from last season.
I can't say this season is harder than LL95, but it's been harder to defend against my opponents. I lost 7(3)-5(3) yesterday to one of the 8% who got etaoin.

Hoping for a third lap

Re: LL Season 96
Had you given me a 0 (assuming you'd have put a 1 on Slovenia, which you zeroed), I would have won 8(4)-7(5); instead I wangled a third consecutive tie, including one with bomtr on MD11. But you gave me a 1 for ETAOIN, which I've never heard of. I was at least in the ballpark with ETIANO.
I cannot believe that 44% of A Continental got that one right.

When I was a kid and into cryptography puzzles (and, to a much lesser extent, Scrabble), I was taught that the top ten in order are ETAONRISDH and based my answer on this (putting N before I). I know nothing about typography machines.

Midseason classic results are up. Underwhelming performance by Foundry rundle but my score placed so that’s cool.
I had a lot of fun with question 12.

Wait, U and Bloomer were ideal money choices??? I assumed they were both obvious chestnuts, and moved on quickly to other options.
Agreed on Q12.

I would not have guessed Kazakhstan that low either. U, however, was an easy money. I'm slowly learning that you're not just playing against A-B rundlers in one-days, but D-E as well. (It's only taken me 30 seasons to realize this...)MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:06 pm Wait, U and Bloomer were ideal money choices???
