+15400 on DD2 & DD3 was good enough for a nice lead, but not a the needed lock. Stephen did 19200 without DDs and used the sole solve of the FJ! clue to punch his ticket to the ToC for sure.

Stephen got another category run when he opened with a sweep of THE BIG BANG THEORY. Ken did have a line ready to comment about J! Round categories 4-6 being BLOSSOM, THE BIG BANG THEORY & CALL ME "CAT".

Happy birthday, Roy, and $2000 and a likely invite to the SCC are better gifts than others might received today.

LITERATURE made the precall game more difficult than this FJ! one that was a snap.

#5059, aired 2006-09-14 A 1950s POEM: "Whole intellects... who demanded sanity trials... & were left with their insanity & their hands & a hung jury"

Today, I did the math, and my pen was down quickly. Roy, sorry to see you could not close the deal, but well done to make Stephen work for the win and not be able to notch another runaway.

sorry, Roy, but I found these boards to be garbage. :x

22/1 fell in the Downy trap, 21/4 (DDs + Radiohead + Vandals for Visigoths)
trash: hibiscus, absolutism, Granada, MA, misappropriate,
betting: :D :( (Lucerne) :( (Crockett) :?

guessed the Pledge of Allegiance for a poem that changed America.

Nice effort, Roy. Sorry you fell short.

I misread the whole thing and subtracted 50 from 1956 and then 50 more to get to 1856. So I put Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Not a poem, but seemed to fit the description.

Don’t know if I’d have gotten Howl. Never read it. Did it really change America?

Your way is better for noting the count. My thinking was 100 since so many had not seen it yet at the time of my game link post.

Happy Birthday and great game Roy. Stone cold on those DDs man, well played.

Stephen might be the most consistent champ I've ever seen. 19k Coryat, 22R, without fail.

I thought of this game to help me lock down today's Final in the first few seconds.

And speaking of "down", why shouldn't "downy" have been accepted as a kind of 5-letter blanket?

There are google hits for such things.

My very first thought on this FJ, based only on the time (2006 - 50) was "Howl."

Then I thought myself out of it, thinking that cannot possibly be the poem that "changed America." Really? It was that significant?

Without knowing the date of its writing, I went instead with "The Road Not Taken," thinking at least that is one that really made a difference for a lot of Americans. Probably what, 30-40 years off on the date?

Oh well. Dang. Dang. Dang.

Well done, Roy, and sorry you came up short. I think Stephen's reaction at the end said it all.

Fun game to watch. Good DD hunting and ballsy TDD on DD3, Roy. Against a 4-day champ, that was a smart play. Sorry that you couldn’t pull FJ. Spotted ‘56 and poem, I had no other choice but Howl.

Thank you all so much for your support and comments.

This was an absolute blast despite the less-than-ideal result. Stephen is a worthy champion, an incredible competitor, and a great person to boot! I'm definitely supporting him the rest of the way!
