Re: Wednesday, March 15, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
This time Stephen's opponents each got a DJ! Round DD correct and it still didn't matter. Even if Gwen and Govind had farmed their DDs it's still a runaway.
My 4th podium was very happy to pick up the Christmas Story stumper as I did watch the new movie in December.
The FJ! clue had me at another coin toss with the wrong guy and the right guy. I dismissed Munch for being Norway as Ken host-splained to Stephen. I dismissed de Kooning for being 20th century.
I went the wrong way because the right guy seemed too far away to matter that much in 1898. "Devoted to" struck me as the artist was dead and I knew van Gogh was not alive then. While not having success while alive I thought van Gogh could have been famous enough by the time of the coronation.
I'm glad a pick a Dutchman FJ! clue did not matter for the game results.
Stephen has won 7 games and has now failed to find 9 DDs in a row. I would imagine that has to be unprecedented for 7x and above champs? He's a tough out with varied paths to victory.
For the ToC winning 7 should be good enough to avoid Cris and Ray in the first match. Two more big champs this season and one of them is going to draw Troy for a QF game. Or Troy may be top 5 anyway as has happened for many 6xers previously.

I went the opposite way and assumed the artist must be alive. Couldn't think of anyone but Mondrian. But he is known as a 20th century artist. I presume Mondrian was not yet notable by 1898.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 1:44 pm I went the wrong way because the right guy seemed too far away to matter that much in 1898. I knew Wilhelmina was Dutch, but I misinterpreted what "devoted to him" meant and went with Prince Albert for some reason.

Fun game for me. Don't know my Coryat, but I'd have got 10,000 on Triple Stumpers alone.
I got the bronze on Jeopardy!

I could only think of one Dutch painter so that made FJ pretty easy.

The Declaration of Independence was passed on July 2nd, not the fourth. Apparently on the 3rd a lot of calligraphy was done and it was signed on the 4th.

And as per https://founders.archives.gov/documents ... 04-02-0147 - the letter referred to in the clue was written on July 5, 1776.floridagator wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 8:23 pm The Declaration of Independence was passed on July 2nd, not the fourth. Seems like a crappy clue. Isn't it basically "Hope you pick the correct Dutch master?"
I picked Vermeer.
I picked Vermeer.
Re: Wednesday, March 15, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Don't think Vermeer has enough works to make a show out of, even if you could get them all together.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): The Mitchells vs the Machines (8), Babes in Toyland /1961/ (5), Unicorn Store (7), Mary Poppins Returns (7)

Don't tell the Dutch!

More like, What Dutch artist with a blockbuster reputation had enough time for that reputation to develop by 1898...
I went from Van Gogh to Munch...I think I would have switched to Rembrandt with a few more seconds...

That's bloody impressive, actually. Also likely very stressful for museum staff!davey wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 10:48 pmDon't tell the Dutch!

Re: Wednesday, March 15, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I figured Van Gogh's wasn't a big enough name before the show at the Bernheim-Jeune gallery, and that wasn't till 1901.
Ok, no, I didn't.

I'm smart and I want respect.
