Re: Monday, March 20, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Chat was enjoyable with Melissa saying she was standing in a perfect first position of ballet and Ken going back to Jake to ask him about his favorite ballet position. I'll admit to standing up and imagining what it would be like to play J! in first position. Scoreboard? Fine. Ballet? No fun.
Melissa mentioned she wrote ballet book (along with other ones):
Ken was also funny his Seattle line for Kelly's plastic story.
The UNESCO category was a pleasant surprise when not all of the clues were media ones.
We know one boardie is going to get the Melville character in the SHORT STORY, SHORTER category.
Today was the first 2023 taping.
Melissa played DD3 at DJ30 leading 21400 to 12400. Cover the possible 24800? Nah, a pretty 3000 looks better to be 401 short of the lock.
The FJ! clue played easy and I'll keep it at 100% while part of me was a tinge hopeful Melissa blew it to make the DD wager have a penalty. (Melissa) Klapper was on and it will be someone else to do Klapper off.
This is a point in the ToC qualifying where J! could use a "WhelShOn" like the previous cycle when Christine Whelchel, Margaret Shelton and Maureen O'Neil had consecutive runs.
We'll see if Melissa can begin it as 20400 Coryat is pretty good.

...but I did also think of The Clapper when I saw her last name.

That wouldn't quite be the case. Melissa didn't defeat Stephen Webb.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:47 pm This is a point in the ToC qualifying where J! could use a "WhelShOn" like the previous cycle when Christine Whelchel, Margaret Shelton and Maureen O'Neil had consecutive runs.

Even worse, per the category, there were only 22 possible answers to choose from.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:47 pm Melissa played DD3 at DJ30 leading 21400 to 12400. Cover the possible 24800? Nah, a pretty 3000 looks better to be 401 short of the lock.
It's a wonder I haven't broken a TV yet while watching.

I think she realized too late what she did. Jake is from Bamawoman’s hometown so I was really hoping she’d miss FJ.Golf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:12 pmEven worse, per the category, there were only 22 possible answers to choose from.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 1:47 pm Melissa played DD3 at DJ30 leading 21400 to 12400. My Mom sat next to Jake's Mom in the audience. She was proud to see him up there, but really excited that she got to go on an L.A. vacation with her son.

I was very glad I was alone in my living room watching the show today. I saw the red Pixar car and blurted out "Butterfly McQueen".

Oh my goodness. I am so relieved Melissa got a second chance to lock it out. That would have been a Virginia-Furman type defeat.

Re: Monday, March 20, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
It was definitely a head scratcher why Melissa didn't wager an extra 401 on The Daily Double to put the game away. The suspense was muted when I saw what an easy Final Jeopardy question it was. Melissa wouldn't really get that wrong after nearly perfect play, would she?
I penalized myself for saying walking in sunshine.
LOL, just LOL at African-Americans first Marching In the inaugural parade at Obama's second inauguration.
LOL, just LOL at Ketchikan Airport being in California. Again, these questions are written to be played from top to bottom.
The Tappan Zee bridge has been renamed for Mario Cuomo but people still call it the Tappan Zee.

Well, at least it made for a nail-biter of an ending. I was very prepared to feel very sorry for her.
I was hoping we'd see Jake do a plié.

The clue asked for the name of "a watery section of river". So Tappan Zee would still be correct.floridagator wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 8:31 pm

I'm more baffled by the watery section. Is there a dry section of the Hudson?

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

These were very good boards for me, and it was in general a well-played game. That was a head scratcher of a DD3 wager, though. Yup, easy FJ for anyone even marginally familiar with African (or Mediterranean) geography.
