James pronounced the ear condition wrong. It's TINN-i-tus.

That third daily double was pure hubris; it didn't even gain James any strategic advantage.

Both pronunciations of tinnitus are acceptable according to all the sources I’ve seen.

For once, I agree with your choice of words. I honestly thought he was going to go all in on FJ as well especially when he was actually grinding on an answer.

He nothing to lose (or gain) in this game. After Matt won the first game (I assume he was allowed to watch) the final results didn’t matter. So why not have fun?

Another 0/2 night.

Careful speakers will note that tinnitus does not end with -itis but rather with -itus. I understand what somebody means when they refer to it with the -itis ending, but I would never say it that way myself.

Wil Wheaton again. And good timing for Sam's nice remarks about the writers.

I'll root for Matt to finish in 4th just for his attitude about 1990s EMMY AWARDS and unlike the players combined, I ran the category.

I picked a country in Africa, Uganda. Too bad there's not even a lake named for it. At least Sam went out with a sole solve, although who knows if Andrew knew it also.

**************
James had already had enough of the French stuff and then the FJ! category was revealed. Hilarious.

James was not accepting of Ken's comment, "I'm impressed" when James had a good get.

James & Andrew were not good duo for Amy at all and I would expect her not to have to face them in the JiT.

The FJ! responses of not trying a legitimate guess keep my ego in check for solving the author as I can't know if the Masters gave me company. I've posted before how much I like it when there's a hidden movie clue. The best part was that I even recalled the proper spelling.

Final four on Monday. No Friday game this week when it's the finale of Shark Tank.

Boulle was my precall, just a funny feeling, so pretty damn pleased with myself! So now 4 for 14.

Pierre Boulle also famously won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for The Bridge on the River Kwai despite not speaking English. (As the author of the original novel, he was credited as adapting it in place of the actual, blacklisted scribes.)
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Not a precall for me, but an instaget after I saw the clue.

I figured the reference was to Planet of the Apes, but had no idea who wrote it.

James is one hell of a Jeopardy player. It's going to take some serious bad luck for him to not win this.

Nice work by Matt in the first game to seal the deal for him.

I thought he might as well but I suspect he wanted to win the game even though it had no benefit to him whatsoever.

Yes, since the game was meaningless perhaps he figured that he could at least gain a slight psychological advantage going into the semi-finals with a particularly demoralizing win.

I hope he would not have done this had Matt lost the previous game (which would have left Amy in contention).

James 18 (6 wins)
Andrew 13 (3 wins)
Matt 9 (3 wins)
Mattea 8 (2 wins)
Amy 5 (0 wins)
Sam 3 (0 wins)

James was a cross out away from a perfect score in the QF round. Impressive.

The SF game not involving James will likely be a must win to make the finals. It will be a rematch of this game.

Also, hubris or easy confidence? The category spotted James the ending letters of the correct response and the point value of the clue hinted that it was not going to be a clue of maximum difficulty.

Same. I was happy just to get that far, since I don't believe I realized previously that the author was even French. :?
