Fourth Podium Poll for Monday, May 22, 2023

Post by opusthepenguin »

You've got no real fourth podium path to victory here, even giving yourself all the breaks. There's $14,600 in trash. You can bump that up to $17,600 if you got the first three clues and bet it all on DD1. You can also subtract $2,800 from Ben's score since, if you got that DD, he didn't. That puts him down to $18,000 going into FJ, still ahead of the fourth podium.

So unless you want to postulate that Ben would have bet less on DD3 at a point when the ideal fourth podium player would be $2,800 ahead of him.... Yeah. Not happening. You had him on the ropes and he squeaked by you. Deal with it.

SCORES GOING INTO FJ

Ben Chan: 20800+4000=24800
Joe Lasser: 7600+399=7999
Nancy Duran: 3600-3500=100
CORRECT RESPONSES
JEOPARDY ROUND

SJ15 $400 BOOK-POURRI: Frankenstein
SJ21 $600 IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM: 5
SJ22 $1000 IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM: The Man in the Iron Mask

DOUBLE JEOPARDY ROUND

DJ3 $1600 POP CULTURE 2003: The White Stripes
DJ4 $2000 POP CULTURE 2003: Jack Aubrey
DJ7 $1600 HISTORIC PEOPLE: Red Cloud
DJ9 $1600 A LOSS FOR WORDS: bereavement
DJ11 $1600 RICE PUDDING: "Makin' Whoopee"
DJ22 $800 POP CULTURE 2003: Real Time with Bill Maher
DJ23 $400 POP CULTURE 2003: Michelle Williams

Makin' Whoopie clue was too ambiguous for me. I couldn't remember the name of the Bill Maher show. Katie Holmes is the only Dawson's Creek actress I know.

I say, how the heck was Frankenstein a stumper?

Did not expect Jack Aubrey to poll that low.

I guess Bill's old show, Politically Incorrect, instead of Real Time, even though I have watched Real Time.

Remington, (Waterloo,) Frankenstein, (was distracted on the algebra clue and didn't have the figures on screen when I paid attention again but gave myself credit,) The Man in the Iron Mask, White Stripes, Red Cloud, bereavement, and "Real Time." Also I negged at the beginning with a wild, goofy guess of The Great Gatsby, so $9,000 I guess, or $8,400 if you don't like my giving myself the math clue. And I got FJ.

$5600 + DD1 + FJ!

Remington most surprising then Barnes=Son 2nd most surprising with a 8xer to 9xer playing.

Frankenstein was image so stuff happens.

Mask title botched is not uncommon.

$7200+DD1+FJ means that I had no chance of catching Ben.

Makin' Whoopee was definitely the one where I was in a personal strong area. I've got a preset on my phone that streams the 1920s Radio Network, and can easily picture Eddie Cantor singing it.
