I bet there was a stop tape to research Alan's response. I think they'd have had to take just "Jeanne".

Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Funny timing to have the Heartbreaking thread appear the same day Alan blows the victory set up for him.
Cool audience shot to see Kate's mom, J! champ Meg Shreve.
Some games this season play like all the material is new while other times, like today, I can actually recall having seen some categories/clues previously.
The FJ! clue was a fast jot and I thought it had 3/3 written all over it. The guys were 1/2 on wagering clue while Kate was the only 2/2 on hers. Good for coming in second and that's it.

Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I remember the laugh when Alex originally revealed the category "Those Darn Etruscans!" the first time, and the subsequent laugh when it was brought back in response it becoming a running gag later. Was its re-use today the clues from that second appearance?MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 1:26 pm today, I can actually recall having seen some categories/clues previously.
Still waiting for the return of "Kings Named Haakon".

Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The mother-daughter idea is actually more reasonable some of the others. (I would sign up) Etruscan made a came back, I mentioned a few weeks ago a spiritual successor showed up but I guess now the original is having a return. I got the Romulus and Remus also I think this clue appeared last month including the photo. I thought I was David Bowie on one of the trumpet ones. (granted when I did the second read through using the archive (I watch a show with the game on one screen and the archive on my phone) looks like I got Starman and Star People confuse. shout out to the tv show Starman even if not related to either)
1600 for email addresses is a beautiful example on why originally Outlook originally had a 8 character maximum. The beautiful head pottery in the Etruscan category was well beautiful.

Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Dennis might note with dismay when he checks the Archive that "Mrs. March" would have been acceptable for the "megs_mom@littlewomen.org" clue, according to the last time that category was played in 2006. This was another category where we got to see the real J!6, which in this case was the McMurphy clue.
Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I also had to put McMurtry out of my mind to get to McMurphy. I too thought it would be a 3/3 FJ and did a double-take on Joanne.
Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
He may have meant to say "Jeanne," but he didn't get all the way there.
Also, not for nothing, but in Joan of Arc's canonization documents, she's referred to in Latin as "Ioanna," which is functionally the same as Joanna...
I object in principle to the "Literary E-Mail Addresses" category. There's nothing pinning any of the correct answers other than a vague sense of hypothetical appropriateness.

Coryat: $39,400
50 R/0 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: chlorine (DD), double eagle, submarine, Randle Patrick McMurphy
Man, I hate having to play games from the Archive (but I am very glad it is there).
I completely dismissed Joan of Arc for FJ! because it was just too obvious. I searched for something else and came up with the Isabella/Catherine of Aragon connection, which is wrong on several accounts.

I was going for my third straight perfect week and 16 correct FJs in a row. I don’t know what my best ever was but that likely far exceeds it.BigDaddyMatty wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 12:26 am).

Then, like you, I decided Joan of Arc was too obvious and write down Catherine of Aragon as well. No idea why except that I am an idiot.

Re: Friday, November 10, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Could have sworn I heard Dennis say "Jossarian" instead of "Yossarian" for DJ "Email Addresses" $1600, and was expecting a reversal. So, I either misheard, had a sound glitch, or learned about a new alternate pronunciation.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
