Ken was quick on the Gen Z crack about no one knowing the "Drivers License" singer.

Amy the 2x beat Tim the 2x and Scott the 1x.

What an awful place for DD3 with the idiotic THAT'S MISLEADING category. And DD2 was not much better being placed in the Robin Williams category. The Masters would have torn up the other 4 categories a lot before finding those DDs.

Scott's sole solve of the FJ! clue got him nothing but pride when how was he to know that lowballing his DDs was the play today.

I matched Amy & Tim on the FJ! clue and put my pen down. Fortunately, I had time and sense enough to pick up my pen and switch to match Scott. During think time I also considered Tagore.

Obvious poll request is obvious for those who (unlike us) kept the pen down.

Coryat: $42,200
51 R/1 W
DD: 3/3
FJ: :(
LT: Christmas tree, Olivia Rodrigo, Nicki Minaj, Chateau d'If, afterglow, Matthew Shepard, Mann Act, River Liffey, Vltava River, Good Will Hunting (DD), rampart (DD)

Another Kipling here.

I'M GUMBO, DADGUMMIT!

It stinks that it didn't work out, but Scott did the right thing on both DDs. What I'm trying to say, Scott, is...it's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.

I totally blanked on both Sydney Carton and peristalsis, and I don't think I'd ever heard that Dada means hobby horse.

The hobby horse etymology is the only thing I do know about Dada.

clunky clue, bc dada doesn't really denote anything in the art context, even if it's a real word in the french dictionary (supposedly taken at random by the founders of the movement). still surprised none of the 3 knew it

I answered "Dead Poets Society" on two clues where it was wrong before someone finally picking the one where it was right.

(And now, a bit of macaroni for dinner:

Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
Removes the colours from our sight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Beware my power: Green Lantern's light!)

I miss TPH even if no one else does. They'd have been pleased with the Hawley-Smoot clue. Or kicking themself for somehow missing it.

I'm glad they asked for Sidney Carton. If they'd named him and asked for Charles Darnay, I'm not sure I'd have come up with the name.

I needed the triple-stumper time to get to Gumbo. I didn't know the name of Gumby's dad, but I did remember that gumbo was a word for okra in some language.

No matter how many times it comes up, I can't seem to remember the Château d'If. It's just too unremarkable to stick in my head. It's got no Hawley or Smoot to it.

Like others, I went to Kipling first because of the India connection. But 1793 just didn't seem like a good fit so I kept thinking. The year also ruled out Orwell whom I also considered. (As a second strike against him, I couldn't think of any poetry by Orwell.) I was also briefly distracted by the name Hector Munro since I knew there was a British short story writer of the O. Henry variety who went by the pen name Saki but whose birth name was Hector Hugh Munro. Saki did have an India connection (looking it up, I see he was born there), but everything else was wrong. He was late 19th/early 20th century. He wasn't a poet. And, if that wasn't enough to kick him to the curb, the guy named Hector Munro was the victim, not the poet.

So I stopped trying to think of literary names with Indian connections and instead asked myself what sort of wild animal might kill a man in India. The first thought that came to me was a tiger, and in an instant I had the poem and therefore the poet. 1793 was exactly the right time period. And that's how I'm preserved from checking the box of shame two days from now.

I said "what's the diff?" and was astonished to be right.

Dickens $200 was an old FJ clue.

I kind of liked "That's Misleading".

I'm not sure which version of FJ is right, but the archive omits the "a" from in front of "Herbert Munro". I think the difference is significant in that the "a" suggests that the person's identity is not germane to solving the clue.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Archive had it correct and theFJguy is busted for copying from TJ!F and not catching the trap when comparing the wording against a screenshot from the airing. TheFJguy post is fixed.

Had Kipling, then realized the poem, but couldn't pull the author quickly enough.

Bobby messaged me on Facebook that someone let them know about the post. Bobby's message:

Tell him know I miss him and most of the other J! Boarders too, but I still find J! too stressful and un-fun to bother with for now (and that I now use they/them pronouns)

I'd also be interested in some other means of contact with Opus as he was always one of my favorite posters

I miss TPH, too. I know he/they was everyone's favorite whipping boy at times (present company included), and he/they may have brought some of that on himself/themself, but he was also entertaining.
