Cris was not playing that give the full name of the category game. Cris being mentioned as the alternate for Masters in 2023 and talk of the ToC winner this year going to Masters felt like handwriting on the wall to me.

Ben & Jared owned Cris in THE '70s TOTALLY ROCKED while I scooped up some LT in older music with the 3 Little Pigs song and the South African city clues.

The FJ! clue could have give me a 25% chance if I had guessed from the right pop culture group. Instead I could not even determine if I should guess Italian or Spanish and wrote Goya.

Great job by Jared to barrel through the front door punctuated by the sole solve of the FJ! clue for extra measure. 3/3 on DDs made for a runaway as often it should and I'm sure [sarcastically] that just broke the hearts of the other ToCers with their result to be determined.

Cris for JIT? Cris for producers pick right into Masters? Cris wait for JIT next time? Time will tell how the J! powers interpret today's result.

3xers taking care of business so far in this ToC.

Wait, the TOC only has 27 players? What with all the wild card and such I'd figured it be much, much more.

I’m puzzled that Wikipedia tells me that this painting is in Rome, and that it is an etching of it made by someone else in the Royal Academy in London.

Still, I guess the key was to recognize the name and connect it to the artist, which I couldn’t do.

Definitely disappointed by the outcome. I was expecting Cris to at least make it to the semifinals, but guess this wasn't meant to be. At least we had super-champions with 19+ wins make it to the semifinals in past ToC's (e.g. David Madden, Julia Collins*, James Holzhauer**, Jason Zuffranieri, and in last season's ToC, Matt Amodio, Amy**, and Mattea were automatic semifinalists). Hopefully we'll see Cris in Jeopardy Invitational and then Masters later this year. And Matt was a finalist in Masters despite losing his semifinal in the 2022 ToC.

Cris has surpassed Seth Wilson as the super-champion with the most wins and not make it to the semifinals of the ToC. And even when I watched his initial run, I noticed he wasn't nearly as aggressive as James was.

* ToC finalist
** ToC winner

i wonder if anyone else is old enough (or weird enough) to come up with the correct response "What is 'Marching to Pretoria'?" because of the long-ago Smothers Brothers recording of that song....

Some kind of old enough (or weird enough) for me with The Weavers. I hinted at getting it with my initial post. No idea of the film (or TV show) but I've probably come across the song that way as well.

My mom did; I've never heard of it.

I matched Cris with Botticelli.

I agree that was overvalued, but in recent years even some very good players (to include at least one super champ in particular) seem to have trouble with clues relating to presidents/US politics. For example, we've had a contestant from NY couldn't name his own state's governor...a 40 time champ who couldn't even venture a guess as to who was president in 1922 or from 1809-1817 while neither of her opponents could take advantage...etc etc etc. I could go on but will stop there!

Fun game to watch. 10 clues in, I felt that Cris was going to run away with it, but Jared came roaring back in DJ. I’ll be interested to see the box score because it looked like Cris lost his buzzer mojo in DJ. I think I could still muster all the words to Marching to Pretoria so no way was I missing that one (Did they teach us that song in school? I doubt my mother ever sang it). For FJ, artists reacting to another artist and reverting to an earlier era? If it isn’t pre-Raphaelite I’ve got nothing.

The unfamiliar name of the painting made me go Oh no!, but then retreat to an earlier style coupled with the English setting sent me towards the right response...
I don't know when was the first or last time I heard "Marching to Pretoria," but it's imprinted on my brain...

Maybe Cris should try calling Apogee as a consolation prize (given DJ17)
